Chennai: Road rage never pays. Young software engineer Ayyappan, 25, who lost his temper on the road a few days ago may regret it for the rest of his life. He was held for murder when the fish cart driver, Srinivasan, 37, whom he assaulted with his helmet died in the Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital on Sunday morning.
Police recounted that the incident of road rage had taken place on Flowers Garden in Pazhavanthagal on the night of July 7.
“It all happened when Srinivasan, who in an inebriated condition was driving his vehicle in a zigzag manner picked up an argument with Ayyappan who was returning home after work from Velachery at around 8 pm. In a fit of rage, Ayyappan, removed his helmet and hit on Srinivasan’s head. Srinivasan collapsed on the road,” police said.
Srinivasan’s wife Vijaya heard of her husband’s plight on the road and managed to take him home. Even as his head began swelling the next morning, Srinivasan remembered Ayyappan hitting him on the head with his helmet.
The doctors could not save Srinivasan from the complications caused by intensive head injury. Following his death, Pazhavanthagal police arrested the software professional for murder.

Udupi: A 17-year-old girl immolated herself at her house at Kotebagilu of Kundapur on Saturday evening.
Chaithra, who was working in a Petrol Bunk in Kundapur, stayed in her grandmother’s house with her mother.
On Saturday evening, Chaithra after returning home from work was on her mobile phone talking to someone, the police said. Her uncle objected to her long phone calls and this led to an argument.
He also allegedly hit her. An angry Chaithra locked herself in her room, doused herself in kerosene and burnt herself. Her mother was out shopping when the incident occurred.
Chaithra was rushed to the government hospital in Kundapur. As her condition was critical, the doctors sent her to Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore, where she died a few hours later.
A case has been registered at the Kundapur Police Station.

Kannur: The Thalassery sessions court has remanded Puthiyapurayil Rajeesh, 25, a native of Kuttikkol near Taliparamaba in the district late Saturday night for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.
According to Sreekantapuram police, the incident took place on the evening of July 15 at Chuzhali near Kulathur under Sreekantapuram police station limits.
“The accused had forcefully brought the girl into the jungle at Chuzhali and sexually assaulted her,” said Sudheer K, sub inspector, Sreekantapuram.
He also said that the accused had threatened the girl of dire consequences if she refused to cooperate and also threatened to kill her mother and sister.
The girl, a 3rd standard student, was on the way home from school when she was trapped.

New Delhi: A man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Delhi court for raping his 12-year-old daughter. Additional Sessions Judge M C Gupta, who is presiding over a fast track court set up to deal with cases of sexual offences against women, held the 36-year-old Shahbad Dairy resident guilty of raping his daughter and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
According to the prosecution, the accused had raped his daughter repeatedly for 22 days in 2011 in his house. It said that the girl, who was living with her maternal grandparents, had come to her parents' house in September 2011 during holidays.
On the night of September 27, 2011, when her mother was not at home and she was sleeping with her three younger siblings, her father came and raped her, it said. The police said he had raped her repeatedly till October 18, 2011. When the victim went to the house of her maternal grandparents, she told them about the incident and a case was lodged and accused was arrested.
Prosecutor S C Sroai said that seeing the gravity of the offence, the convict who had raped his minor daughter be given severe punishment to deter him from committing same offence in future and no leniency be shown to him.
The court also turned down leniency plea of the convict who had sought the relief on the ground that he is sole bread earner in the family and was not involved in any other case.

Hyderabad: The body of a 50-year-old man was found in a garbage bin at Moazzam Jahi Market on Sunday morning. The body was found in a plastic bag with his mouth taped and limbs tied.
Cops suspect the body might have been put in the bag after the man was murdered. There was also an injury to the head.The body was found in a semi-nude state.
GHMC staff noticed the body while collecting garbage and informed the police. Police said the man was stout and had a silver ring on his right hand ring finger.
He has a mole on the left side of the stomach and on the left thigh. A case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered. The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Sunday nabbed six chain-snatchers in a weel-planned sting opeartion. Women home guards in plainclothes and wearing gold ornaments nabbed three chain-snat-chers red-handed while patrolling Karmanghat, which is notorious for chain-snatching.
The cops chased down the accused after they tried to rob a home guard in mufti and recovered 18 tolas of gold ornaments and three bikes from them. L.B. Nagar DCP C. Ravi Varma said the accused had been invo-lved in similar offences in the past under different police station limits.
“The offenders were involved in 10 chain-snatching cases and three automobile theft cases under the limits of Saroornagar Chithan-yapuri, Madannapet, Chaderghat, Charminar, Keesara, Sultan Baazar and Humayunagar poli-ce stations,” he said.
The arrested are Moh-ammed Samiuddin, 29, of Yakutpura, Mohammed Salman, 19, of Chan-chalguda, and a minor from Chintal Mettu.
Later, acting on information provided by the three, cops tracked down Syed Fahim, 32, of Kurmaguda, Mohammed Sohel, 20, of Madannapet and Mohammed Arif, 25, from Choni, Yakutpura.

Driver found hanging inside auto
Bengaluru: Unable to repay debts, a 35-year-old auto driver committed suicide by hanging inside his autorickshaw on ABB Road in Peenya Industrial Area.
The deceased, Rangaswamy, was a resident of Shivapura near Bagalur. He was a native of Shanti village in Hassan, but had settled in the city along with his wife Dhanalakshmi and two daughters.
The police said a flower vendor, Manjunath, noticed the body inside the auto (KA-01, AA-3457) around 9.30 am and informed the police. Initially it was suspected to be a murder, but after examining the scene, the police concluded that Ramaswamy had hanged himself from the iron rod on the passenger seat, using a towel.
“He had dinner on Saturday night and left home saying he was going for work. Investigations also revealed that he was a habitual drunkard and had huge loans, which he was unable to repay. It is suspected he took the extreme step in the wee hours of Sunday,” the police said.
Peenya police have registered a suspicious death case in this connection.

Bengaluru: A 16-year-old girl, Kritika (name changed), from Uday Nagar in Mahadevpura, who went missing since July 15, was rescued from her kidnapper and brought back home on Sunday by Bagepalli police.
Her parents had filed a missing complaint with the Mahadevpura police station soon after the girl disappeared. Kritika, a first PUC student, was walking towards her home on July 15, when a man on a motorbike picked her up saying he was her father’s friend and had come to take her for a puja at his house.
Over the next few days, he kept her in different places. On Saturday, he was taking the girl towards Chikkaballapur when his bike developed a snag. He took the vehicle to a garage, and Kritika, taking advantage of the situation, raised an alarm and alerted the people around the place.
The man fled leaving the motorbike. Passersby came to Kritika’s help and handed her over to Bagepalli police, who brought her to Bengaluru and handed her over to the parents. The police took details from the girl and identified Ravi Kumar alias Babu, a native of Andhra Pradesh, as the accused.
Even on July 6, a girl was kidnapped from Banaswadi. A similar case was reported on July 9 from Whitefield. The same man is a suspect in both cases. The police said that the accused appeared to be a psychopath.
Describing his modus operandi, the police said the accused kept the victims under detention and released them after sometime at the same place where he kidnapped them from.
Nearly 40 kidnapping cases have been reported against him under different police station limits in the city. Mahadevpura police are on the lookout for the accused.

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old woman, who set herself ablaze on Saturday evening at her residence in Malkaj-giri, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
Fatima who lost her husband, Shoukath Ali Khan used to quarrel with a couple in her neighbourhood over petty issues, police said.
“They quarrelled on saturday afternoon too, while filling water. It was only after that she ended her life,” SI Janaki Ram said.
The couple was booked under Section 306 for abetting Fatima to commit suicide. She is survived by three daughters.

Licence forgers arrested
Kochi: Thrikkakara police on Sunday arrested two persons from Kochi on charge of forging driving licences. The arrested were identified as Rony Thomas, 24, of Chalil House at Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district and Ratheesh Baby, 30, of Pathalil House at Upputhara in Idukky.
They were working as contract employees in a press in the city. Rony was held during a vehicle checking near Kakkanad, the police said.
“While checking the licence, we understood that it was fake. When questioned him he confessed that one Ratheeh gave it to him. Following this information, we went to the latter’s house at Kalamassery and arrested him.
He was staying at a rented house at Kalamassery. He also had a fake driving licence with him,” said Bijo Alexander, the assistant commissioner of Thrikkakara police.
The duo has told the police that it was a Kochi-based racket that supplied licences to them. The police is learnt to have collected details about the main agent of the racket and is hunting for him. The cops are also probing if the man has supplied fake licences to more people.
The arrested were produced before the court and were remanded in judicial custody. The police would seek the custody of duo later to question them about the racket.
