Bengaluru: Marital discord and suspicion of fidelity led an autorickshaw driver to attack his estranged wife with a machete near the railway track at Gajendra Nagar in Byappanahalli on Tuesday morning. The woman sustained serious injuries on her right hand and has been admitted to hospital.
The injured woman, Deepa (21), who works as a domestic help, was attacked by Babu (22). They fell in love and got married five years ago and were staying in Gajendra Nagar. The couple has a son and daughter.
But for the last one year, Babu started suspecting Deepa’s fidelity and the couple had frequent quarrels over the issue. Two months ago, an angry Deepa deserted Babu and moved into her parents’ house in the same area. Their parents met recently to sort out the issue, but it did not result in a compromise.
“Determined to live separately from her husband, Deepa had returned her mangalsutra and toe ring. An upset Babu had threatened her with dire consequences,” the police added.
“On Tuesday morning, Deepa was walking towards a house where she worked when Babu attacked her with a machete. He fled the scene after the incident. Deepa, who sustained serious injuries on her right hand, has been admitted to a hospital,” the police said.
Byappanahalli railway police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Babu.

Madurai: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old boy was found murdered and buried inside a bone-dry kanmoi (tank) in a village in Madurai district.
 
The police who exhumed the body in the wee hours of Tuesday said it had bruises all over giving way for suspicion of abuse and torture. “Our suspicion proved right when we picked up Selvam (30), with whom the boy was seen last, and grilled him,” a police officer said.
 
The police said Selvam was a childhood friend of the boy’s father, a mason of a village near Vannivel­ampatti.
 
Hence, he used to frequent his house and take the little boy and his younger sister out often and buy them toffees. Having been to his friend’s house on Monday evening, Selvam, who was drunk, had taken the boy out.
 
However, after some time, he returned to his house and was watching TV while the worried parents were frantically searching for their son. 
 
Even as some villagers stated that they saw the boy with Selvam, he feigned ignorance saying he consoled him as he was crying but left the place thereafter. The police said he joined the villagers in looking for the boy.
 
Since the boy could not be traced, they informed T. Kalluppatti police. On being grilled, Selvam confessed to abusing the child in a secluded place by the village tank and strangling him to death out of fear that he would expose him.

Chennai: Ganga Devi, wife of a software engineer and who was suspected to have been killed by her lover last week, returned to Chennai and has told the police she doesn’t want to live with her husband or paramour, but at her parents’ house.
 
Ganga Devi, married to Saravanan in 2005, last week left with her newfound lover Karthik. In the mea­nt­ime, the body of a wom­an was found in a sack on a lakebed in Wal­ajah, Vellore.
 
As there was no news about the missing Ganga Devi, her family thought the body belonged to her. Gan­ga Devi called up the po­lice after the news about ‘her murder’ started appearing in the media,” said the police.
 
On Mon­day, she returned from Coim­batore with Kart­hik to give a statement to the police in the city. “Tho­ugh we were married eight years back, we had no children. So, there w­a­s constant problem at ho­me and my husband h­a­d indicated that it will be better if we separated.
 
I met Kart­hik, a man younger to me.We both decided to elope. Now, I would like to live with my mother” she told pol­ice  wh­ere her husb­an­­d and lover were waiting.

Chennai: A 32-year-old bike mechanic set a fire a woman working in a photocopy shop at Purasawalkam in full public view after she refused to repay his loan, on Monday.
 
The police said Chandrasekar, bike mechanic from Purasawalkam, reac­h­ed the shop carrying a bottle and poured the fuel on Dhana who was sitting inside the shop. Before she could realise the danger and raise an alarm, he set her on fire.
 
It was people from other shops who rushed to her rescue and doused the flames using water.A policeman on patrol nabbed Chandra­sekar, who tried to commit self-immolation using the remaining petrol.
 
After interrogating him, the police found that Dhana was running the shop for the past six years and Chandrasekar, owned a worshop on the pavment adjacent to her shop.
 
She borrowed Rs 35,000 from Chandrasekar to buy a few items for her shop. Whenever he asked her to repay the laon, she kept buying time and on Sunday when he went to the shop demanding the money, Dhana reportedly slippered him.

Hyderabad: The Ramgopalpet police on Tuesday arrested a person who alleged tried to loot an automated teller machine at Ranigunj.
B Madhu,26, a resident of Rasoolpura, had allegedly tried to break open the machine inside an Axis Bank ATM booth on Monday night.
“Though he broke one of the CCTV cameras, his face was caught in the footage. We identified him and arrested him on Tuesday,” said a senior police official from Ramgopalpet.
Police has booked a case against Madhu and sent him to judicial remand.

Hyderabad: Task Force sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a person and seized 1.5 kg ganga from him. Police identified the man as N. Heera, 22, of Ravindranagar in Sitaphalmandi.
Heera claimed that he had his brother were facing severe financial problems and in order to make money, he and his sister-in-law had started selling ganja.
The North Zone Task Force team conducted a raid at Sitaphalmandi and picked up Heera even as he was selling the narcotic to some persons.
The Task Force handed over Heera to the Chilkalguda police station along with the seized cache of ganja. The arrests were made by A.P. Anand Kumar, inspector of the North Zone Task Force team, according to a release.

Hyderabad: Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport nabbed a person while he was trying to smuggle 1 kg of gold on Tuesday.
Sayed Daulath Hassain, a native of Alipur in Karnataka, arrived by Flight TG329 from Thailand in the early hours of the morning, the Customs officials said. He had concealed a gold bar, weighing 1 kg, inside his handbag.
The Customs officials detected the gold bar during baggage checking. Officials said that the passenger, who is a businessman, was returning home when he was caught. The gold has been seized and the probe has started.
