A day after a mob thrashed doctors and other staff at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in east Delhi, the staff suspended work demanding security arrangements.
The mob had reportedly gone on rampage in the hospital after a woman died after giving birth to a dead child.
Medical superintendent Dr Adarsh Kumar said on Monday that a pregnant woman referred by a nearby maternity home was admitted in the hospital at around 4 am on Sunday. On examination, the doctors found that the baby had already died in the uterus.
“Our doctors explained the situation to the woman’s relatives and induced the labour. At around 2 pm, she delivered the dead child. After delivery some complications arose as the patient was bleeding profusely and had got septicaemia. We tried to revive the women but she died. After her death a mob gathered and thrashed everyone,” Dr Kumar said. He further said that most of the staff has returned to duty.
Meanwhile, ACP Dinesh Gupta and other senior police officials visited the hospital and assured that they would take necessary action in this respect. The police has filed an FIR in this respect against unknown persons.
