Hyderabad: A man allegedly killed his wife and one-and-a-half-year old son by pouring acid on their faces at Malkajgiri on Tuesday. The bodies of the victims were found at their house at Veenanagar in the morning.
Police suspect that the accused, N. Babu, a milk vendor, poisoned both of the victims before fleeing. The victims were identified as N. Mamatha, 25, and her son, N. Upender.
Cops said that the victims must have died either due to poisoning or due to the acid attack. “A liquid like acid was found on the faces of both the victims, especially their eyes.
We also suspect that the victims were poisoned. The postmortem report will reveal the real cause of death,” said Malkajgiri SI E. Jahangir said.
Another son of the couple, Mahender, 4, was not in the house when they were murdered. According to locals, the couple were milk vendors and got married six years ago. However, Mamatha’s parents alleged that Babu used to harass her for additional dowry, and pick up quarrels with her.
Police received a complaint from Mamatha’s parents. “We have booked a murder case against Babu under IPC Section 302, and has started an investigation,” Jahangir said.

Bellary: A 35-year-old speech and hearing impaired woman was allegedly raped by two people from her village at Hadagali taluk of Bellary on Monday.
It is said that the woman had arrived from Veerupapura tanda in Mundaragi taluk of Gadag district and was on her way to Basarahalli Tanda of Hadagali when she was intercepted by Valya Naik and Raja Naik.
They took her on a two-wheeler, saying they would drop her to the village. But on the way, they took her to a forested area and allegedly raped her.
She narrated the incident to villagers and Kubya Naik, a fellow villager, filed a complaint with the Hadagali police, who took Valya Naik and Raja Naik into custody.

Thrissur: The Vadanapilly police on Tuesday arrested a woman and her paramour for attempting to sexually harass her 14-year-old daughter. The accused, identified as Yasodha, 38,  and Sunil, 42,  were arrested based on a direction by the child welfare committee here.
The girl had complained to the police  four days ago  that Sunil had repeatedly made sexual advances towards her while her mother abetted him.
“As the girl could no longer resist his attempts, she sought asylum here and we  referred the case to the child welfare committee,’’  officials said.
According to police, Yasodha has three daughters and they were living in a rented house arranged by Sunil after the death of her husband about 10 years ago. The arrested were  booked under section 23 of the Juvenile Justices Act 2000, various sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a 43-year-old secretary of a private school in Tirupur kissed several girl students studying in class 10 of the sch­ool as punishment for coming late to special classes.
Parents of the students, who came to know about the incident, staged a protest in the school on Tue­sday morning demanding the arrest of the secretary.
According to the Tirupur police, the secretary of the school management, Kat­hi­resan (43), demanded that latecomers for the special class meet him in his office room. “When girls went late to school, Kathiresan ki­ss­ed the students clai­m­­ing that it was a punishment for coming late to school,” a police official said.
The girls who were shocked over the incident informed the cla­ss teachers and the sc­hool principal Laks­hmi. But they did not get any favourable res­ponse.
On Tuesday morning, a group of parents stormed the school and caught hold of Ka­t­h­iresan in his office ro­o­m. The agitated pa­rents beat up the man before they were sent out by other school staff.
Tirupur north sub-inspector Krishnaveni rushed to the spot and took Kath­iresan into custody.  Later in the day he was arrested.

Pregnant woman dies of burns
Chennai: The relatives of 28-year-old pregnant woman Nithya on Tuesday gathered at the Kilpauk medical college and alleged that she was burnt to death by her in-laws and husband for not meeting their dowry demands. But, later, they took her body to her native place, Kancheepuram.

Nithya got married in December 2012 to Bhaskaran, an assistant block development officer, Kancheepuram, and was five months pregnant when she breathed her last at KMC hospital on Monday morning. Prabhakaran, a relative of Nithya, said she enjoyed her married life till her husband decided to construct a house.
“As they were living in a hut, her husband and in-laws decided to build a house and asked her either to give Rs 5 lakh or her gold jewels. But Nithya never told her parents about it and refused to hand over her jewellery. When she became pregnant, she started staying in her parents’ house, which is 1 km from her in-laws’ home.
As Nithya was five months pregnant, she was sent to her in-laws house for a function. On Sunday, the function was conducted well and Nithya said she would visit her mother on Monday,” said Prabhakaran.
Her relatives said Nithya even spoke to her sister and brother-in-law on Sunday at 8.30 pm. “Around 9 pm the same day, Nithya’s parents received a call saying that Nithya was not well.
Later, her in-laws said when Nithya was sleeping, her saree accidentally caught fire after it came in contact with a lamp,” said Prabhakaran. She was immediately rushed to the GH in Kancheepuram and later admitted to KMC in Chennai.
Nithya died with 90 per cent burn injuries on Monday morning. “She was harassed and burnt to death. The police have to take action against her husband and in-laws,” her relatives stressed.

Chennai: A DMK functionary was hacked to death in Sembium on Monday night while he was going home on his bike on Paper Mills Road. The deceased was identified as Idimurasu Elangovan, 44, DMK party’s secretary of ward No, 45. He is survived by his wife and two children.

At around 10.30 pm, an autorickshaw carrying an armed gang blocked the victim’s vehicle and hacked him to death, the police said, adding that eight persons were arrested by Tuesday evening in connection with the murder.
The police said Elangovan’s murder was a result of a feud. “It is believed that he was involved in a murder last year. His relatives were arrested for the murder. The rival gang believes that Elangovan was involved in that murder,” the police noted.

Bengaluru: Their 32-year-old love marriage met a tragic end when the 65-year-old husband murdered his 55-year-old wife by beating her to death with a wooden stick and later hanging himself at their residence in  Srikanteshwara Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout police limits on Tuesday morning. Frequent clashes and fights over trivial issues led to the incident, the police said.
Nanjappa, a retired technician of ITI in KR Puram, is the man who murdered his wife Shashikala and then committed suicide.
The couple hailed from Dobbspet and had two dau­g­hters, Dhanalakshmi and Devika, and a son, Manju­nath, who is an assistant professor of mathematics at Christ University. All the three children are  are married.
The police said that the elderly couple was living with Manjunath, his wife Pavitra and their three-year-old grandson Varun.
On Tuesday morning, there was clash between the couple after Manju­nath left for work. Nanj­appa asked Pavitra to go to her parents’ house in Peenya as he needed to talk to Shashikala privately.
“After she left with Varun, it is suspected that the couple fought hard and Nanjappa hit his wife’s head with a wooden stick. After confirming that she was dead, he made his last phone call to their daughter Devika.
Later, he hanged himself in the drawing room. Shashikala’s body was found in a pool of blood at the kitchen door. Preliminary investigation suggested that marital discord led to the incident,” the police said.
A close relative of the couple, who did not wish to be named, said that clashes over trivial issues spoilt the marriage that for  over 30 years.

Hyderabad: A software employee’s pregnant wife was electrocuted in her house under suspicious circumstances at the Ashok Vihar colony in Tapachaputra.
The parents of the victim alleged that the woman was murdered by her husband, who had been harassing her for additional dowry. However, the cops have not booked any case against the husband so far.
The victim, A. Laxmi Durga, 22, was found dead in her house on Monday night. The husband A. Venkat Manoj Kumar told the police that Laxmi was electrocuted when she was heating water using an electric heater.
Laxmi’s parents M. Someswar Rao and Adi Lakshmi alleged that Manoj Kumar took a huge amount as dowry during marriage and had been harassing Laxmi for more.
On a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, the police have booked a case under CrPc Section 174 for suspicious death.

Bengaluru: Three youth, who allegedly attacked and robbed police sub-inspector Girish and his friend Haridas, have been arrested in a joint operation by Ashoknagar and Cubbon Park police. A revolver has been recovered from the arrested accused.
The accused have been identified as Gautham, 23, who resides near Poornima Talkies of Ramanna Garden, Karthik, 21, of Annaiah Reddy Layout in JP Nagar 6th phase, and Vasudevan alias Vasu, 23, of Baroda Colony in JP Nagar 7th phase. Another accused in the case, Raja, is absconding and the police are on the lookout for him.
The police said that SI Girish and his friend Haridas, a bank employee, had dinner at a pub on MG Road on July 19. While they were returning in a car, the accused waylaid the vehicle in Richmond Town and attacked them.
They also opened fire from their revolver and stabbed Haridas in the thigh with a dagger. Later, they robbed the duo and fled the scene.
“The case was investigated very seriously and various clues were gathered about the accused. Finally, we zeroed in on them after a thorough field work.
They are involved in several robbery cases. They did not plan the robberies, but went around attacking and robbing people randomly, whenever they all came together,” the police said.
The police clarified that the SI and his friend were not involved in a fight with the accused before the incident. “The accused were on rounds and they saw a Hyundai Verna car passing by.
They instantly decided to waylay it and rob its occupants. They followed the car and attacked the SI and his friend. Also, no woman was present inside the car when the incident took place,” the police said.
Accused Gautham is a close relative of notorious rowdy Market Velu, who was hacked to death two years ago, and the revolver used in the crime belonged to him.
All the accused have criminal backgrounds and are involved in attempt to murder, robbery and other cases registered in SJ Park, Basavanagudi, Tilaknagar and other police stations.
The police are thinking of opening rowdy sheet son the arrested three.Country-made revolver, dagger and a Bajaj Pulsar bike used in the crime have been recovered from the arrested accused.

Srikakulam: Two children were kidnapped and killed by unidentified persons at Killipalem village in Srikakulam rural mandal on Tuesday.
Koyyana Govind and Simhadri Abhishek, both aged 11, were playing near the Rama temple in the village at 7 pm on Monday, when the power went off.
When the lights came on, the kids were missing. Their families began looking for them. Around 9 pm, Abhishek’s father S. Venkata Ramana received a phone call demanding Rs 2 lakh for the kids’ release. After some time, the kids’ parents called up the number but the phone was switched off.
They then went to the Srikakulam rural police. On Tuesday, the bodies of the kids were found in an agricultural field near the village.
The bodies had acid burns on the legs and hands. The kidnappers had stuck small sticks into the children’s eyes before killing them.

In separate operations, police nabbed two people with two illegal firearms and seven live bullets. Both had acquired the weapons from UP a few weeks ago.
While Md. Hassan, 30, from Dabeerpura, bought the weapon to sell in the city, Mahbub Ali, 24, from Babanagar of Kanchanbagh, purchased it for self-defence. Ali, a lorry driver, faces several cases; Hassan is a native of UP.

Thiruvananthapuram: The amicus curiae for Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Gopal Subramaniam, has pulled up the royal family for going soft on the temple administrative officer who had been taking money for appointments to various posts in the temple and found selling fake ornaments to devotees.
The observations were made by the amicus curiae to the division bench of the Supreme Court early this month. The report states that the administrative officer, Jayasekharan Nair, was colluding with a jewellery shop to sell fake gold ornaments.
It says that the police had to threaten the patriarch of the royal family, Marthanda Varama, with legal action for him to put an end to the fake gold business.
“But no action was taken against Nair who had been the official in charge of the scheme,” the report states. Further, it adds that the royal family is all for such a scheme.
The fake gold sale was brought to light when a police officer on duty purchased a gold coin weighing 8 grams on which the deity’s image was inlaid. When he weighed the coin, it was less than 6 gms. Subramaniam said that there had been many such complaints by devotees.
“These coins were made by a leading jewellery shop in Thiruvananthapuram and a total of 1000 coins have been sold so far. The AO is accused of having misappropriated either money or gold in connivance with jewellery officials,” the report states.
The amicus curiae also states that the administrative officer extracts his share from fresh appointments, even from daily wagers.
The AO was also accused of arbitrarily jacking up the cost of constructing a ‘keeping centre’ at the temple from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. When the audit clerk questioned this, the AO silenced him by promoting him and shifting him to an office outside the temple.
