Siliguri (WB), Jul 28: Life was partially affected here, following a bandh called by the CPI (ML) to mark the 38th death anniversary of Charu Majumdar, one of the founders of naxal movement.
A faction of the CPI(ML) had made an announcement for the bandh, which is observed every year.
Most of the shops, markets and business establishments remained closed and private vehicles were found less on the roads. However, movement of government vehicles and attendance in offices was normal.
No law and order problem was reported so far, police said.
Majumdar, along with Kanu Sanyal and Jangal Santal, led a militant peasant uprising at Naxalbari village, about 35 km from here, in 1967. They also formed the CPI(ML) with his as its general secretary in 1969.
The Naxalite leader was caught from his hide-out on July 16, 1972 and died in police custody at the Alipore central jail on July 28, 1972.
