Mumbai, Jul 28: Cracking down on party workers who indulged in a brawl during the Pune rural district congress committee elections, Congress today suspended former MLA Sambhaji Kunjir and former Purandar municipal president Sanjay Jagtap from the party.
State unit president Manikrao Thakre has appointed a two-member committee comprising senior leader Ramshet Thakur and state unit officebearer Ramesh Shetty to investigate the incident which took place at the Congress bhawan in Pune yesterday.
Further action would be taken after the committee submits its report, a statement issued by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee said here today.
Unruly scenes marked the process for election yesterday as workers belonging to rival factions came to blows, beating up former MLA Sambhaji Kunjir in the melee.
Sambhajirao Kunjir was kicked, punched and hit on the head with a plastic chair by rival faction members at the Congress Bhavan in Pune.
