With the 11-day Ganeshotsav approaching soon, Ganesh mandals in the city are a worried lot. Despite tall promises made by the BMC to ensure pothole-free roads during Ganeshotsav, they are apprehensive about negotiating the bumpy roads, while bringing their favourite elephant God.
With nearly 18,000 potholes reported on city roads this year, Ganesh mandals have met BMC officials to discuss the poor quality of roads and demanded that potholes be filled by August so that there is no problem, while transporting idols.
In a meeting with the officials of the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS), — an umbrella organisation of Ganpati mandals in the city — civic officials have assured that all the potholes on the city’s roads, used for arrival and immersion of Ganpatis, would be repaired by August 15.
Naresh Dahibhawkar, president of BSGSS, admitted that they are worried about the bad condition of roads in the city. “We are hoping that the city’s roads are ready for Ganeshotsav. Every mandal has been complaining about bad roads in the city,” he said.
