Railway workers have upped their demand to constitute the Seventh Pay Commission, even though recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission are yet to be implemented.
National Federa-tion of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) held a protest march in Mumbai and acro-ss the country on Friday and threatened that if their demands are not met, they would halt work again.
They alleged that senior railway officers’ slack attitude was causing harm to the Railways and its 14-lakh workers. Divisional secretary of Western Railway Majdoor Sangh (WRMS) Ajay Singh threatened to go on strike if long-pending demands of railway emplo-yees are not met with. Interesting-ly, the Steering Committee recently already decided to go on strike demanding appointment of the Seventh Pay Commission.
Mr Singh said, “It’s unfortunate that we had to dec-ide to strike beca-use the administr-ation has snubbed our welfare.”

Cops granted custody of lohariya murder accused

Suresh Bijlani, an accused in the murder of builder Sunilkumar Lohariya, on Friday was remanded to police custody till August 6 by the Thane sessions court. He had earlier been remanded to judicial custody after only six days of police custody, and the city crime branch had appealed against the decision.
Bijlani, who was reportedly named by Lohariya in his dying declaration, surrendered to the crime branch in July and was interrogated by them. On July 29, after his custody was over, he was produced in the Vashi court, and sentenced to judicial custody. The crime branch had then filed an appeal with the Thane sessions court.
“We obtained Bijlani’s custody till August 6 and he will be picked up from the Thane Central Jail by Friday night or Saturday morning,” confirmed a crime branch official.
