Celebrities are famous for embracing unconventional treatments and therapies to enhance their lifestyles. The majority of people who want to lose weight hit the gym or go on a diet. But not celeb couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, who’ve taken a more way-out route. The two are on a detox treatment called ‘master cleanse’, which involves sipping on a concoction made of water, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper all through the day sans any solid food. Beyonce popularised this treatment and soon other stars followed suit.
Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez carries a vial of grapefruit oil, which she keeps sniffing. The Latino beauty claims that this helps break down fat in the liver, leading to weight loss.
“It sounds positively crazy,” laughs college student Vandana Aiyar. “I mean if I want to lose weight I’d rather workout and go on a diet. Then I will be able to see the results. Where is the guarantee that such therapies will come with zero side-effects?” she asks.
Recently, Victoria Beckham made news for undergoing a Chinese cupping treatment that involves placing hot cups on the back, to treat a hangover after a drinking binge.
Model Pratika Shah, says there’s nothing like natural remedies and it’s best to stick to the tried and tested methods. “I know for sure that ginger cures indigestion and haldi is great for skin. But beyond these I’d never go in for any of these weird therapies. The Chinese cupping treatment sounds painful. I know for sure I’ll end up with a back full of blisters if I tried it,” she shudders. Wellness experts say that even though people are aware of such treatments, not many go in for them because they are unsure of the effectiveness.
