Advani attacks UPA for inaction

Launching a scathing attack on Congress-led UPA government over its “inaction” on the killing of five Indian soldiers by the Pakistan Army, the BJP on Sunday sought to know country’s protocol “with those who behead our soldiers.”

The principal Opposition also claimed that defence minister A.K. Antony’s “goof-up” on it has “inflicted irreparable damage on the reputation” of the government and reiterated its demand that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should immediately declare that there will be no talks with his Pakistani counterpart at the United Nations.
BJP parliamentary party chief L.K. Advani, writing on the issue in his blog, said “If the Pak Army ambushed our jawans on the LoC and killed five of them, the Indian Parliament, upset with Antony’s statement, ambushed the defence minister and forced him to take back his wishy-washy version of the first day, and replace it with another statement, fully reflecting the national mood of anger against Pakistan.” He also charged the government with mishandling the Telangana issue and accused the ruling party members of creating pandemonium in Parliament due to which the current session till now has proved “utterly barren.”
The first statement given by the minister had described the intruders as “terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army uniform” while an Army spokesperson had said “soldiers from Pak Army” were involved. He later made a revised statement after Opposition furore, that Pakistan Army was involved in the incident.
Slamming the UPA and the Prime Minister over government’s Pakistan policy, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi alleged that national security is being ignored due to “vote bank politics.”
“This government of Delhi cannot provide security to the nation. This government, neck deep in vote bank politics, cannot provide security to our nation... When the Indian jawans were beheaded, the Prime Minister had said that Pakistan will be accounted for it,” said the BJP campaign committee head in Hyderabad.
Reminding the PM about his “promise” of not tolerating “such things,” Mr Modi asked “What is the reason that a country of 125 crore is silently tolerating when Pakistan is going back on its promise one by one?”
He sought to know from the government “What is the protocol with those, who behead our soldiers.”
Mr Advani said, “Even before the current session of Parliament commenced, the media reported a seemingly PMO inspired news report that the Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) would be holding talks with Nawaz Sharif, and that too without the rider of 26/11 — meaning that there would be no insistence on the culprits behind the terrorist attack on Mumbai being revealed.”
