YSR Congress to go on 'fast-unto-death' against AP bifurcation

Hyderabad: YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma would launch a 'fast-unto-death' on August 19, in coastal city Vijayawada, to protest against the Congress' attitude on the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh, the party said here on Wednesday.
"Andhra Pradesh should be kept united if justice cannot be done to all regions of the state," YSRC demanded.
The Congress is seeking to divide the state only to serve its political interests, the party alleged adding that the Central Working Committee resolution on the state bifurcation was "unilateral". It may be recalled that Vijayamma quit her membership of the state Assembly while her son and YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha protesting the Congress' stance on AP bifurcation issue.
The party's second MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and 16 MLAs also put in their papers over the issue.
"There should be a rationale and a basis for division of any state. But, from whatever angle you look at, only the Congress' political interests are seen in the move to divide AP," YSRC political affairs committee member M.V. Mysura Reddy said here on Wednesday.
The Congress' decision was "unilateral and dictatorial," he alleged and said the state could not be divided at gun point. The ruling party was only aiming at winning 10 MP seats through the division, he alleged.
Referring to the four-member committee headed by A.K. Antony, appointed by the AICC to look into the concerns of people in the wake of the bifurcation decision, Mysura wondered,how various stakeholders could make their representations to a party committee. There was no need for political parties or other organisations to go to the AICC-appointed committee with their pleas, he added.
The Centre should talk to all concerned and come out with a solution that would be acceptable to all, he demanded.
