TDP leader Lal Jan Basha dies in road accident

Hyderabad: Senior TDP leader Lal Jan Basha died in a road accident on Thursday. He was 56.
The accident occurred when the car he was travelling in hit a road divider near Narketpalli in Nalgonda district while he was coming from Guntur to Hyderabad. He died on the spot while the driver sustained serious injuries.
Basha was elected to Lok Sabha from Guntur in 1991 in a stunning victory over veteran parliamentarian Acharya N.G. Ranga. However, he lost subsequent elections to Lok Sabha from Guntur and Narsaraopet constituencies. He was later elected to Rajya Sabha. Presently he was serving as the party's Vice President.
He was also the Chairman of Bombay Mercantile Bank.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and leaders of other political parties have expressed grief over Basha's death.
