Lego-inspired fashion with a dash of fun

Lego blocks are an artist’s dream. Concealed in Lego bricks are our childhood memories and possibilities of creating anything and everything. Lego’s usage in different forms of cultural works, including books, films and art work, testifies its popularity. And one can now pack a meal in a Lego lunchbox, stand tall in Lego-inspired shoes, wear Lego dresses, show off your waist in Lego belts, flaunt watches, cuff-links, purses etc. Chanel’s latest Lego handbag is a hit with celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora and desi designers are also experimenting with these “building blocks”.
Anand Bhushan’s A/W 2013 collection was modelled around Lego. The collection, which was called “Block”, had knee-length, long and tube dresses in sheer, organza and leather. “Lego is what our childhood memories are made of. I tried to capture the innocence of those days and the somber feeling of loss in this collection. It was an instant hit with the buyers. Lego is fun and I made the collection very wearable,” he says.
Designer Paras Boiraliya adds, “Chanel’s Lego clutch looks quite fab. Lego also works great for shoes. We are very soft in our treatment as we make delicate evening wear. So probably we would use the silhouette of Lego as seams. But I am thinking more of a Lego-inspired restaurant or bar. It would be quite fun and will definitely make a strong statement. In terms of accessories bracelets, rings, key chains and clutches would be good to make a fashion statement. Even an iPhone cover would be quite cool.”
Stylist Pinky Verma says that one can also search for the abandoned Lego blocks in the closet and use some creativity to make one’s own accessories. “All it takes is an idea, glue, interesting keychains, and confidence to rock the trend,” she says.
