After extending their support to 12-hour blockade on all the national highways crossing through Bodoland Territorial Council on Friday, the All-Bodo Students’ Union has decided to give a relief of another 10 days to the government which assured them in a letter on Thursday to hold a tripartite meeting to discuss their statehood demand.
Disclosing that principal home secretary of the Assam government has written a letter to the ABSU asking them to suspend their agitation till the tripartite meeting is held, ABSU president Pramod Boro told this newspaper that they have agreed not to intensify their agitation for another 10 days. “We have responded to the letter of the principal home secretary on Friday informing that they are not going to launch any agitation for next 10 days that would disrupt the normal life in the state,” said Mr Boro clarifying that they want tripartite talk on creation of a separate Bodoland but it should not be lesser than Union home minister or home secretary level.
Asserting that they may not attend meeting with some junior officials of the home ministry, Mr Boro pointed out that Karbi Anglong was burning again just because the home ministry instead of trying to address genuine grievances of the people, focused on signing a peace accord that too haphazardly prepared by some junior officers in the home ministry.
