Coimbatore: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for raping and murdering his sister at their residence in Rathinapuri, the police said.
Ravi, 25, from N.G.R. nagar in Rathinapuri, works as a van driver in a private firm and lives with his parents Viswanathan and Devi, and his sister Kalpana On Friday evening, Kalpana was found murder at their home.
The police, who sent the body for postmortem, found that the victim was raped before she was brutally murdered and conducted enquiries with the family members and siblings.During interrogation, Ravi confessed to the crime and said he had raped and murdered his sister.
“On Friday afternoon, he had come home to have lunch. When he found that no one was around, he raped Kalpana. Later he strangled her to death,” a police official said.

Nellore: In a shocking incident, a heavily bleeding 23-year-old woman from Odisha, working at an aqua exports firm at Narayanareddipeta on Nellore outskirts, was dumped on the premises of Jubilee Hospital here, at 2 am on Sunday by an unidentified man.
Nellore police said that going by the condition of the woman, she might have been raped and dumped at the hospital by the perpetrator.Preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified 30-year-old youth had first took the woman to the local Ramachandra Reddy Hospital after crossing midnight, but the night duty staff there sought him to take the woman to Narayana Hospital as her condition looked serious.
In this backdrop, the youth dumped her at Jubilee Hospital, after bringing her in an auto. Later, he went missing from the spot, leaving the woman to bleed and moan in agony.Even by evening, the woman remained in an unconscious state and under sedation, though the doctors declared her out of danger.
The Nellore police said that they could know the whereabouts of the woman and said that once the woman is back to senses, it would be easier for them to unravel the mystery.

Nellore: Panic gripped the devotees at the temple of Lord Ranganayakula Swamy in Nellore town on Sunday morning, when a mentally-ill man entered the temple complex, and banged a five-year-old boy to death, after lifting him in the air, while his parents watched the gory attack helpless.
A couple from Puttur village of Kanigiri mandal of Prakasam district reached the temple in Nellore at around 7 am.After having bath on the banks of Penna river, the couple, along with their boy, Rasool Reddy, 5, entered the temple and were performing pradakshina, while the boy was ahead of the parents by a few feet.
Suddenly, a man in rags pounced on the boy, lifting him in the air by feet, and started banging him to the temple walls and ground.The parents and other devotees recovered from shock and retrieved the boy from the hands of the maniac. The boy bleeding heavily from ears and nose, was rushed to Narayana Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The boy’s father Azrath Reddy was left in a dazed state and his mother went unconscious on seeing the tragic death of their son.The III Town police registered a case and took the psycho, identifiedas Giri Lal from Bihar, into custody after nabbing him nearby thetemple.
The police said that the mentally deranged man was moving around the temple and eating the leftovers of devotees.

ISRO employee’s wife commits suicide
Bengaluru: Upset over her husband not letting her visit her native place on the occasion of Varamahalakshmi festival, a 28-year-old woman hanged herself on Saturday, in the presence of her two-year-old daughter, at her house in Kadirenahalli in Banashankari police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Smitha, a native of Channapatna. She was married to Vishwanath, an ISRO employee.
Police said that Smitha was upset because she was not allowed to visit her parents’ house in Channapatna to celebrate the festival. On Saturday afternoon, while her family members were watching TV in the drawing room, she went to the bedroom along with her daughter.
“After some time, the family members heard the child crying and knocked on the door. As there was no response, they broke open the door to find Smitha hanging from a ceiling fan. She has not left behind any suicide note and the reason is being investigated,” the police said.
“The couple had quarreled on Friday and Vishwanath had reportedly told her that she could go to her native place during Gowri-Ganesha festival. It is suspected that Smitha took the extreme step upset over this. However, her parents have filed a dowry harassment case against Vishwanath,” the Banashankari Police, who are investigating the case, added.

Hyderabad: A newly-wed woman committed suicide by consuming poison at her house in Dundigal on Saturday night.
The deceased Revathi, 24, was married to Shiva Kumar, three months ago. She consumed poison after repeatedly complaining of stomach ache. She was immediately rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.

Tiruchy: The police have nabbed five suspects, all engineering students, in connection with the rape and murder of a class 8 girl student whose dismembered body was found on the railway track near Edamalaipatti Pudur in the city recently.
The 13-year-old girl, daughter of Akbar Basha of Khajamalai area and studying in class 8 in a private higher secondary school in Melapudur area, did not return home from school on Tuesday evening.
Much to the shock of her relatives, five fragments of her body were recovered from the railway track at Rettamalai in Edamalaipatti Pudur area on Wednesday as she had been run over by a train. Her right forearm was found missing.
Her bag was found about 100 feet from the railway track while her garments were retrieved from amidst the thorny bushes about a half-km from the body.
The government railway police retrieved her body and sent it to government hospital in Tiruchy for postmortem. The GRP registered a case under section 174 (suspicious death) of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and were investigating.
Preliminary investigation by police revealed that the girl attended the school as usual on Tuesday. Enquiry with her classmates revealed that she travelled along with some of her classmates in a bus soon after her school in the evening but got off at Aristo roundtana junction near the central bus stand. But, she did not return home.
Though postmortem was completed on August 13, the victim’s mother and relatives did not take possession of the body demanding the arrest of the culprits.
Ever since the mutilated body of the girl was found close to the railway track near E Pudur, there were protests by Muslim organisations demanding the arrest of the culprits. The girl’s body was laid to rest at a burial ground in Thennur on Saturday.
DGP Ramanujam ordered transfer of the investigation case from the GRP to the city police. Following this, GRP personnel met city commissioner of police Shailesh Kumar Yadav on Saturday morning and handed over the case diary. Since the mutilated body was recovered from the spot falling within the jurisdiction of E Pudur police station, it was assigned the task of conducting further investigations.
With the help of the two mobile numbers found on the girl’s notebook, the police nabbed Umar Farooq of Kahaj­amalai and Vinodh­kumar of Ponamal­aipatti and grilled them.
Based on information provided by them, they nabbed three more persons, Vignesh, Siva and Saravanan, all hailing from Edamal­aipatti Pudur. All the five are studying mechanical engineering in a private engineering college near Tiruchy, the sources said.

Coimbatore: Two chain-snatchers have been arrested and booked under the Goondas Act for repeated thefts, the police said. The arrested accused have been identified as Ganesan, 25, and Vijaykumar, 24, of Ondipu­dur.
On Satruday evening, the police conducted a vehicle check on Trichy road, near Singanallur, when they found persons moving suspiciously on a two-wheeler.
“When we caught them and conducted inquiries, they confessed to commiting crimes and that they had been involved in many chain-snatching incidents in the city,” a police official said.
The police said they were involved in 15 chain-snatching incidents in places like Saibaba colony, Peelamedu, Race Course and Saravanampatti residential areas. City police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Sunday passed the orders to book the accused under Goondas Act following which the two were remanded in judicial custody.

Coimbatore: The police have identified the man who died in the Tirupur blast on Friday evening following an explosion in a scrap shop. The police also said the explosion was caused by a detonator device.
Andi­samy, 61, a native of Neela Kottai, in Dindgul district, residing in Muthu Nagar, in Andi­palayam, Tirupur, worked as a construction labourer.
The police said Andisamy during his leisure time, collected scrap from the roadside garbage bins and sold it to scrap shops.
On Friday evening, Andisamy had come to the scrap shop along with the materials collected to K.T.C. school road belonging to Andavar. Unaware of the detonator product, Andavar tried to break it open when it exploded resulting in his death.
Andavar and other workers were injured in the incident, said the police who are investigating the matter further.

Hyderabad: Unidentified goons had a youth bumped off in his house in the city’s Habeebnagar Colony on Sunday evening. The assailants also decamped with 1 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 4.4 lakh in cash.K. Shivakumar, 18, was found murdered in his house by his grandmother, the police said.
The murder took place at around 3.30 pm when nobody was present in the house. The grandmother of the deceased, who had left home at 3 pm, returned half-an-hour later only to find her grandson murdered, according to police.
“Besides, the almirahs of the house had also been broken open and the cash and jewellery was missing,” Goshamahal ACP D. Srinivas said.
The woman was shocked and cried out for help. Locals soon gathered at the house. A police team also reached the spot soon. “During initial investigation we found that the assailants strangled the boy with a cloth lying in the house. There were also telltale signs of the victim having resisted the attackers,” Habeebnagar police inspector N.SV. Venkateswar said.
The police suspect that the robbers were known to the victim’s family. “We suspect the robbers were acquaintances of the family since two dogs in the house were silent when the incident occurred,” said Srinivas.
The neighbours also did not notice any stranger entering the house where the youth was murdered,” said Srinivas.
The ACP added that a manhunt was launched to trace the assailants. “We have also taken 10 people into custody, and verifications are being carried out,” he said. Police has also got access to the CCTV camera footages from the same locality.
“One of the private houses in the locality has a CCTV camera installed. We hope to get some clues from the video footage,” Habeebnagar police inspector N.S.V. Venka-teswar said.

Minor boy drowns in Osmansagar
Hyderabad: A 15-yr-old boy accidentally drowned in the Osmansagar, Gandipet early in the morning on Sunday. The victim had gone to swim in the lake along with his friends. The body was later fished out and shifted to the hospital.
The deceased C. Nikhil Kumar, a Class X student, was a resident of Hakimpet, Towlichowki.
Nikhil had planned to spend some time with his friends and decided to go swimming in the lake. He left his house in the morning at around 7.30 am. He was accompanied by three of his other friends who went to the lake. Nikhil entered the water to swim, all alone.
“He was in the water for some time and after sometime, gradually started drowning. We did not understand what to do at the moment and informed the cops,” said his friends.
