A Delhi court has cleared the judicial requests of the CBI to be sent to the UK,
Italy and Tunisia for seeking details of certain companies based there as part of agency’s probe into Rs 3,600 crore AugustaWestland helicopter deal.
According to sources the judicial requests, which are now being processed by the ministry of external affairs on behalf of the investigative agency, will be sent to the UK, Italy and Tunisia in a day or two. Earlier, the court had cleared judicial request or LR of the CBI to Mauritius. The LR is a judicial request issued by a competent court to a foreign court and processed by the ministry of external affairs on behalf of the investigative agencies to obtain information about individuals and entities.
Sources said the agency is also preparing to question former Air Force chief S P Tyagi and his cousins in connection with the AugustaWestland helicopter deal case. “The agency is scrutinising transcripts of telephone conversations intercepted by the Italian authorities in the VVIP chopper deal. Italian authorities recently handed over to CBI transcripts of telephone conversations intercepted by them,” sources said.
The CBI has booked former IAF Chief and 12 others under charges of bribery, cheating and corruption in the VVIP chopper deal. The former Air Chief, his cousins —Sanjeev alias Julie, Rajeev alias Docsa and Sandeep, European middlemen Carlo Gerosa, Christian Michel and Guido Haschke are among 13 individuals named in the FIR as accused. Besides, the CBI has also booked brother of former Union Minister Santosh Bagrodia, Satish Bagrodia, and Pratap Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of IDS Infotech.
Six companies including Italy-based Finmeccanica, AgustaWestland, Mohali-based IDS Infotech, Chandigarh based Aeromatrix, IDS Tunisia and IDS Mauritius have also been booked by the CBI in its FIR.
