The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) examination conducted by Barkatullah University in the state capital has come under cloud and the university’s credibility is at rock bottom with the unearthing of a fake examination scam and the arrest of its kingpin Sajjan Singh Parmar and a dentist, Devvrat Nayak, who were both produced in court on Wednesday and sent to police remand.
The police had made the first breakthrough in this case last Friday by arresting four students accused of hiring writers for their exams. With the latest arrests on Tuesday, the number of accused now on police remand in this case has gone up to six. The two main accused, Parmar and Nayak, were arrested by the special task force on Tuesday. Their modus operandi was to get dental students in their net and help them clear the examinations by getting their examination copies written outside the examination halls by hired writers. While Parmar is enrolled for Ph.D in Barkatullah University, Nayak did his BDS from a private dental college here last year.
His father a tehsildar in Tikamgarh district, was allegedly caught red-handed accepting bribe in 2004 and is now under suspension.
The Police have so far booked 19 students from different dental colleges. More students, including girls, who allegedly paid money for getting their examination copies written outside the exam centres, are likely to be arrested soon.
