Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday told civil and military leadership that his government wants to resolve all the issued with India through talks, adding that Pakistan will abide by the Line of Control (LoC) ceasefire.
Chairing a meeting of the defence committee of the Cabinet, called to discuss the LoC skirmishes and other issues, the Pakistan Prime Minister said that talks would be held with India to normalise relations.
“New Delhi should abide by the LoC ceasefire agreement. We also remain committed to this,” Mr Sharif told the meeting.
The meeting was briefed by the director general of military operations over the situation at the LoC and other security matters.
It was attended by interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Prime Minister’s adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz, finance minister Ishaq Dar, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and services chiefs. This was the first sitting of the body since elections on May 11, 2013. A government official said the committee discussed four-point agenda, including matters relating to security situation and war against terrorism.
“It will also discuss the recent tension at the Line of Control, besides regional situation and foreign policy issues,” he said.
“Military leadership also presented its recommendations regarding eradication of terrorism,” the official said. “Situation after US draw down from Afghanistan was also be discussed in the meeting”, he added. The Prime Minister himself has kept the portfolios of defence and foreign ministries, therefore‚ he represented these ministries in the meeting.
Earlier, on Thursday, the National Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution against Indian violation of ceasefire along the LoC.
