Home minister R.R. Patil on Friday announced that female journalists in the city would be provided police protection if they express their desire for it.
“If a female journalist thinks that the place where she is going for an office assignment is dangerous, then she will be able to ask for security from the nearest police station. The police will provide proper security to her. A circular is this regard will be issued soon,” said the home minister. Mr Patil also assured that her assignment would remain confidential. The police would be directed not to disclose any information about the journalist’s assignment.
Talking about the progress in gangrape case, the Mr Patil said that police had formed many teams to nab the remaining accused. We have got some important evidence from the spot with the help of forensic experts. “The police will make a foolproof case and the chargesheet will be filed as soon as all the accused are caught,” he said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of various journalist associations met the home minister in the backdrop of the gangrape and demanded stringent and immediate action in the case.

‘Sketch was 85% accurate’

Mumbai police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh on Friday, while addressing the media, said, “The victim is composed and stable now.
Twenty teams, including officials from the crime branch and local police have been formed, to trace the absconding four accused.” He added that sketches of the accused had been prepared on the basis of the description given by the victim and her colleague, and that the arrest had been made on the basis of the sketch, which was 85 per cent accurate.
The accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the IPC. “Section 376-D is a amended section that attracts 20 years minimum punishment or life imprisonment. We will collect clinching and scientific evidence in the case to get maximum punishment for the accused. We will also request for the trial of the case to be conducted in a fast-track court,” said Dr Singh.
