Guntur: A 16-year-old physically challenged girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Lingapuram village of Amaravathi mandal on Monday.
Police said that one Bobbili Subba Rao, who lives in the victim’s neighbourhood, had forcibly taken her to a nearby hut and had outraged her modesty. The victim’s parents were at their agricultural field at the time of the incident.
Based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, the police has filed a case. The victim has been sent to GGH for medical examination and a police team has been formed to nab the accused.

Bengaluru: Two men barged into the office of a watch distributing company in the guise of income tax officials and robbed the manager of her gold chain after attacking her with a blunt object in Silver Jubilee Park police limits on Tuesday morning.
The victim, Chandini, is a resident of R.T. Nagar and is a manager for Hitech Logistic Marketing, a watch distributing company with an office situated on the first floor of a building opposite Town Hall.
Around 8.45 am on Monday, she was inside the shop when two men forced the main door open and entered, claiming to be from the IT department, she has told the police. When the men pretended to look around the shop, Chandini turned away from the duo momentarily.
Seizing the opportunity, one of the men allegedly hit Chandini on the head with a blunt object, snatched her 40 gm gold chain and fled. When another employee walked into the store 15 minutes later, he found Chandini unconscious and bleeding. He rushed her to a nearby hospital and is now said to be out of danger.

Bengaluru: The Madiwala police have arrested the “most wanted” kidnapper, Janardhanachari alias Babu alias Ravi, who allegedly kidnapped and robbed minor girls. In some cases, he had also allegedly raped the girls. In the last two months, he was involved in 31 kidnap cases, the police said.
Ravi, who is 30 years old, is a resident of Rampura village in Hoskote taluk in Bengaluru Rural district. He had abducted a 12-year-old girl from a Venkateshwara Layout in Madiwala and taken her to a lodge. “Based on the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, we had launched a manhunt. We had credible information on his location.
We raided the lodge and arrested him,” the police said. Giving details of Ravi’s modus operandi, Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar said the accused stole motorcycles and scouted for minor girls wearing jewellery. “He targeted girls near schools, wedding halls and shopping areas.
He introduced himself to these girls as their parents’ friend, and got all the details. He would then pretend to call their parents from his mobile and then tell the victims that he had to invite their parents for a Sathyanarayana puja and had to give sarees to their mother.
He would take the girls to deserted areas, like temples and lodges, and ask them to remove the jewellery and give it to him as there were thieves and robbers around. He would then drop the girls near their houses and flee. He would sell the jewellery and make money,” Auradkar said.
“Ravi was last arrested by the City Market police on June 26 this year and 82 gms of gold jewellery and a motorcycle were recovered from him. But he managed to come out on bail on July 5. After his release, he stole a Bajaj Pulsar bike (KA-03-EN-7818) from Koramangala and used it to kidnap girls,” Auradkar said.
Ravi has confessed to kidnapping 31 minor girls and sexually abusing one of them. “But only 16 of these cases have been reported to the police. Nine of them are from Bengaluru alone,” Auradkar added.

Hyderabad: The city crime scene has taken a new turn. The recent gun attacks, in which one victim was killed and two others injured, illustrate this trend. Thieves and other criminals have started using firearms instead of other, more conventional weapons.
In three incidents which occurred over the past two months at Balanagar, Kukatpally, and Sanjeev Reddy Nagar, two of the criminals were identified as robbers with illegal country-made firearms. The latest attacker at SR Nagar is yet to be identified. A recent crackdown by the city police on illegal firearms proved ineffective.
West Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said bullets showed that the attackers used a .32 pistol to kill the cobbler who was sleeping near his shelter at Leelanagar, SR Nagar, on Saturday night. “We are verifying the details of the arms licence holders in the city as part of the investigation,” he said, adding that cops are stumped not to have found the motive behind the murder.
Last Monday, an armed robber allegedly opened fire at a local vendor in a bid to snatch a cash bag at Sangeethnagar, Kukatpally, in the early hours. The 24-year-old victim, J. Chandu, who is a cashier at a roadside ‘curry point,’ sustained a bullet injury on his left wrist in the incident.
The offender, who used a country-made weapon, fled the spot. Cops are yet to trace him. In the third incident, on July 3 at Balanagar, two robbers fired at a wine shop cashier with a country-made firearm. The 32-year-old victim, R. Santhosh, received a serious injury when the bullet lodged in his hand.
Santhosh, an employee with Balanagar Wines, was returning home with his associate after closing the shop when the robbers struck.
City police had started a crackdown on illegal firearm users in the early months of this year, picking up many gun users including private security guards. Nearly 20 firearms were seized from different miscreants. Cops had found that the offenders had smuggled their weapons from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Bengaluru: Four chain-snatching incidents were reported in the city since Monday night. The police suspect that the same gang of two men on a motorbike was involved in all the cases.
At HSR Layout, Padmaja Gujur, 60, was robbed of her gold chain weighing 30 gram when she had gone out for a walk near her house on Aralimara Road on Monday night. The two men snatched her chain and and sped away.
In Vyalikaval, Revati (28) lost her 40 gm gold chain when she had gone for her morning walk at a park near her house on Tuesday morning.
In another incident, 80-year-old Papamma was robbed of her 40 gm gold chain, while she was drawing a rangoli in front of her house in Koramangala sixth block. In the last incident, Annamma, 68, was robbed of her chain while she was sweeping in front of her house in HBR Layout.

Vijayawada: The police registered a case against Kaikaluru Telugu Desam MLA J. Venkataramana on Tuesday on charges of dowry harassment under Section 498A.
His wife Suneeta filed the complaint at Mandavalli police station. She stated that the MLA had married her on February 7, 1997, and they had three children.
She alleged that her husband had stated in his election affidavit that he had two children and got elected as MLA in 2009. When she questioned him about the false affidavit, he had allegedly beaten her.
Suneeta said that her husband opened fire on her with his revolver on November 22, 2011, and her children and brother were witnesses.
She alleged that the MLA forced her to sign divorce papers and the case was pending in Machilipatnam sub court. The MLA also used to threaten her to attend the court hearing. She alleged that the MLA had been harassing her for dowry.
Suneeta said that she has been staying with her parents at Eluru along with her children and she fears for her life. She urged the authorities to ensure justice to her by taking action against her husband.
Superintendent of police J. Prabhakara Rao said that the Kaikaluru police registered a case against the MLA on Tuesday.
The village elders are said to be bringing pressure on Suneeta to strike a compromise.

Hyderabad: West Zone police arrested four chain snatchers, two house burglars, five automobile thieves, and two house thieves on Tuesday. The cops also seized property worth nearly Rs 25 lakh from them.
In the first case, the Tappachaputra police arrested three snatchers — B. Naresh, 25, R. Yadav, 24, and Mohd. Mohsin, 24. Humayunnagar police arrested another snatcher named Syed Shabeer.Cops seized six tola gold ornaments from them.
In the second case, Asifnagar police and Mangalhat police arrested two house burglars, Mohd Ibrahim and A. Mahender, and seized property worth lakhs of rupees.
All the accused people were produced before court and sent for remand.

Chennai: A six-year-old boy was kidnapped and subsequently rescued by the local people on Monday night near Koyambedu. The boy, identified as Mukesh, studies in class 2 at a government school.
The boy, along with his father Sekar, who works as a cab driver, mother Chitra, a housewife, and elder sister Nandini, 6, lives on South Mada street in Koyambedu.
The police quoted the residents of the area as saying that on Monday evening the boy was playing near his uncle’s house in the same area when an unidentified person started talking to the boy, giving him chocolate.
Suddenly, he put the boy in a sack and started fleeing from the place. Alarmed residents gave a chase and beat him up before handing him over to the police.
The accused was identified as Damodaran, 22, a resident of Tambaram. The CMBT police said the accused had admitted to committing such crimes previously and that he kidnapped children for begging near traffic signals.
Moreover, he used to abuse the child if he resisted, the police quoted him as saying.Further investigations are on to check if the accused was involved in any other such crimes. The CMBT police have registered a case and the accused was remanded in custody.
Only two days back, the city police busted a begging mafia, wherein a fake psychologist had run an unregistered trust and had used mentally challenged persons, rescued from the roads, to collect donations at public places.

Chennai: A four-year-old, verbally challenged child, who went missing from his residence near Royapettah on Monday, was rescued by the police and bought home on Tuesday. The kid, Abdul Rahman, studying LKG at a private school in Mylapore, was last seen near his home at Ismail grounds, off Lloyds road, on Monday afternoon.
The kid’s father, Mohammed Jarjis, 32, works as a salesperson at a wardrobe showroom in Adyar. On Monday, the kid had left home around 9 am with the caretaker of the balwadi he attends. After he was nowhere to be found till late evening, the boy’s father registered a complaint with the Royapettah police.
Investigations revealed that the kid had gone to the neighbour’s house after coming from the balwadi as there was nobody at home. The boy’s mother, Zarina Begum, 26, had gone out and his elder sister, Thaggasin Banu, 6, had gone for school, the police said.
The police said the kid was rescued by the Mylapore railway police on Monday evening near the Lighthouse railway station, where he was found with a suspicious-looking person. The kid was handed over to the Mylapore police station.
On Tuesday, after learning about the boy missing complaint, his parents were contacted by the Mylapore police and directed to the children’s home near Central where the child was sent after being rescued by the police.

Kochi: Police on Tuesday foiled the attempt to divert 234 sacks of wheat grains from the Food Corporation of India godown at Willingdon Island to private mills. Two lorries with wheat were seized by shadow police at the Vallarpadam Container Road. One of the drivers was arrested while the other fled.
The shipments were diverted to private mills in Edayar, the police, who acted on a tip-off, said. The arrested driver was identified as Antony (34). The one absconding is Nissar (32).According to the cops, the food grains were meant to be distributed in Kochi taluk and the allotment was in the name of one Praveen. “We’ve received information that wheat is being shipped out in three lorries. One might have escaped and we’re tracing it.”
The police have got lead about the middlemen and other persons involved in the fraud. The Eloor police filed charges under the Essential Commodities Act, Rationing Act and MV Act.“They are meant to be sold at Rs 2 a kg to BPL holders and Rs 6.70 a kg to APL holders. The intention was to sell these at Rs 20 a kg in the open market,” the police said.

Vijawada: Residents of apartments in the city, especially the women, have been on tenterhooks of late, after the city witnessed three daylight robberies in a span of five days recently.
In all three cases, women who were alone in their houses during the day became the victims of the robbers, who threatened them with different weapons in each case, a knife, a pistol and chilli powder.
“I stay alone in the house after my husband and children leave for office and school, to protect myself, I have to keep the doors locked all day. I am on high alert since the the day the woman at Patamata was attacked for gold,” said G. Radha, who stays at Gauthaminagar of Krishnalanka.
The police is yet to make headway in any of the three cases, the first one in which a youth, on the pretext of distributing wedding invitations, entered the apartment of a contractor, and escaped with gold ornaments after he threatened the lady of the house on August 22.
It may be worth mentioning here that a majority of the apartments don’t have any proper security system in place like emergency alarms or full time security guards. However, every apartment complex has a watchman, who also serves as a laundryman staying along with his family in the parking lot.
According to the norms of police department, every apartment must have a security guard who is supposed to watch the movement and maintain records of visitors.
Sheer negligence or absence of security is believed to have made the robbers’ job easier in the first and third cases occurred under the limits of Patamata and Krishnalanka police stations.
A top police official told this newspaper, “We asked the secretaries of apartments several times to set up closed CCTV cameras and maintain records of every visitor, including their contact numbers.”
The apartment secretaries must also employ full time security who should thoroughly check the identity of the visitors and allow them to enter only after verification.
