Many expectant mothers have booked themselves beds and wards in hospitals as they seek to be bestowed with a child on the auspicious day of Janmashtami, celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. They have planned the delivery well-in advance in co-ordination with doctors and surgeons.
Janmashtami is celebrated across the nation as the birthday of Lord Krishna, said to have been born to Vasudeva and Devki.
Megha Sahni who is in the last leg of her pregnancy had made the arrangements well in advance. This would be her second child. She said, “The delivery date was close to August 28. With prior consultation and recommendations from doctors, we have decided to bring the joy to our lives on Janmashtami.”
Hospitals across the city and satellite areas have done pre-bookings for expectant mothers. Shri Balaji Action Hospital will operate on six expectant mothers, whereas Apollo Hospital has done special arrangements for the day and prepared itself for delivery of one child. Meanwhile, Neelkanth Hospital, Gurgaon, is scheduled to perform eight surgeries on the particular day, four women have booked beds in Arvi Hospital, Gurgaon, while the Columbia Asia Hospital has three bookings on Janmashtami.
However, doctors at various hospitals denied that they do have any arrangements as such.
“Delivering a child before the scheduled time could be fatal for the mother and the child,” said Dr Sadhna Singhal of Shri Action Balaji Hospital. She confirmed that the hospital has done bookings for the day, “but has also wisely avoided those deliveries which have a minutest scope of complication,” she added.
Commenting on the significance of birth on Janmashtami, Acharya Mrityunjay Mishra said, “Those born on this day are said to be wise as they share the birth date with the Lord.”
