[1]Hyderabad: YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was shifted to the Nims emergency ward late on Friday night from Osm-ania General Hospital.
He was taken in a bulletproof vehicle amidst tight security to Nims, where also security has been beefed up.His mother Y.S. Vijaya-lakshmi and wife Bhara-thi were present at the hospital.
Earlier, Mr Reddy had refused to take fluids at OGH. “No, I will not take liquids, I am all right,” he told a doctors’ panel.
OGH?superintendent Dr Ram Das, professor of medicine Dr Manohar, and professor of nephrology Dr Manisha Sahay explained to Mr Reddy that his blood sugar levels were falling, his heart rate was not normal and serum creatinine in his urine was below normal.
The panel then wrote to Chanchalguda jail superintendent B. Sadaiah to shift Mr Reddy to Nims. Forcible intravenous fluids can’t be given, doctors explained, as it is a medico-legal case.
Doctors in dilemma over Jagan fast
Explaining that forcible intravenous fluids can’t be given to YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, a doctor said, “We require consent from the jail authorities to take these stri-ngent steps. For any other patient, we would willingly do it with the consent of the relatives, but this is different.”
The doctors say Mr Reddy listens to whatever they have to say about his health condition, but refuses to abandon the fast. With serum cratinine levels down to 1.3, there is a danger of the kidneys being affected.
Mr Reddy has been on a fast for the last five days to protest the bifurcation of the state. Senior doctors feel that if family members are allowed to meet Mr Reddy, it would make a lot of difference in convincing the patient.
The ward where Mr Reddy is currently being kept is very strictly monitored by the police. Apart from the resident medical officer and designated committee members comprising assistant professors, no one else is allowed in.
Vjayamma appeals to Jagan to end fast
Hyderabad: YSRC party honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi and senior party lead-er Konatala Ramakri-shna on Friday appea-led with party president Jagan Mohan Reddy to end his indefinite fast.
The party’s Political Affairs Committee appealed to Mr Reddy to end his hunger strike. They also appealed to the party cadre to remain calm.
Meanwhile Ms Vijaya-lakshmi on Friday filed a petition with the CBI court for special cases, Nampally, and sought permission for the fa-mily members to attend to Mr Reddy at the OGH. The court examined the petition and posted the orders to Saturday.
Jagan fasts, patients suffer
With YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy admitted at the Osmania General Hos-pital, patients arriving from districts, villages and also the old city for out-patient treatment and for elective medical treatment as in-patients had a harrowing time on Friday.The Emergency Wing and the main gates of the hospital were blocked and manned by the police for security reasons.
The patients had to explain their symptoms to the police officers before they were allowed to enter.
The out-patient department in the three wings of the hospital gets over 2,000 people on a daily basis, but this came down to 500 people on Friday. There was chaos in the morning as patients struggled to enter the hospital and most could not understand why they were being shooed away.
The cops were not willing to take any chances as they were worried that YSRC workers might enter the hospital in the guise of patients and thus subjected each to rigorous questioning.
Baalu, who had come with his father Sai Baba from Nalgonda, had an appointment with a cardiologist.They had to call up the doctor to get an entry. While the doctors came to the aid of the patients who had prior appointments, others had a rough time.
Fifty-year-old Amee-nabi from Charminar came for consultation for thyroid and had to wait for half-an-hour as the cops were allowing only a few patients at a time.
While most patients who came from the city outskirts, those from the districts stayed back as they did not have a choice.
Meanwhile, the hospital resembled a fortress inside. There was a huge presence of security forces from the Task Fo-rce, Central Reserve For-ce and paramilitary forces who were stationed outside as well as inside the hospital.
Doctors, nurses and post-graduate students were not allowed near the Acute Medical Ward where Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was admitted. Only hospital superintendent Dr Ram Das and a committee of doctors comprising a neurologist, a professor of medicine and a professor of the Orthopaedic department were allowed inside.
The other patients in the ward were separated from Mr Reddy and an enclosure was created to monitor his health status.
