[1]New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today read out a statement on the missing coal files in the Rajya Sabha but refused to entertain questions and went to the Lok Sabha to make a similar statement.
In his brief statement, Singh said efforts are on to trace the missing papers and the Opposition should not come to any hasty conclusions. He said his government has nothing to hide and would extend full cooperation to the Supreme Court which is monitoring the case.
The Prime Minister also said the matter is before the court and it would not be appropriate to comment on the subject.
But the PM’s statement did not answer the questions raised by the Opposition on various issues like who was the custodian of the files when it went missing, how many files were missing, whether a case has been filed regarding the missing files and whether action has been taken against the officials who were responsible for the files when they went missing.
Unhappy with the reply the Opposition raised an uproar forcing Deputy Speaker P J Kurein to adjourn the Rajya Sabha till 2 pm.
