New Delhi: The government has initiated the process of privatising the operation and management of six airports of the state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI), with the issue of the Request for Qualification (RFQ) on Tuesday for the selection of prospective bidders at two of these airports — Chennai and Lucknow.
The RFQ is expected to be issued shortly for other four airports are Kolkata, Guwahati, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. The AAI had earlier completed the modernisation of the Chennai and Kolkata airports.
The selected private entity or consortium is likely to be allowed to pick up 100 per cent stake in the company that will operate and manage the six airports, while the AAI is expected to receive a higher revenue share percentage at Chennai and Kolkata compared to what it currently receives at Delhi and Mumbai.
“The scope includes the entire airport including the airside and city side facilities on long-term concession,” the government said on Tuesday.
“Following the Inter-Ministerial Task Force recommendations for operation, management and development of select airports on public private partnership (PPP) basis, the request For qualification (RFQ) for selection of the prospective bidders for Chennai and Luck-now airports has been invited.
The Request for Qualification for these two airports are invited up to mid October, 2013 and Financial Bids are likely to be received by mid December, 2013. The other four airports namely Kolkata, Guwahati, Jaipur and Ahmedabad are likely to be taken on the same pattern shortly,” the government said.
