Union minister and chairman of Congress campaign committee for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election Jyotiraditya Scindia said with full confidence in the state capital on Wednesday that the Congress party will defeat the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming polls and form a people-centric government committed to all-round development and progress.
Mr Scindia, who arrived here to chair the first meeting of the state Congress campaign committee, was addressing a press conference at the state Congress headquarters on Wednesday evening. He said that the Congress party’s target is not restricted only to overthrowing the BJP and forming its government in the state. We are going to seek people’s vote on the basis of an agenda and an ideology, he said adding “we want to address the problems of the weakest of the weaker sections,” he added. The Congress campaign would go beyond targeting the BJP and its negative points, Mr Scindia said. He also emphasised that once the Congress comes to power, people will realise that unlike 10 years of BJP rule, we do not make hollow promises. Answering a query, he said it is a leading question and he would like to make it absolutely clear that irrespective of who becomes the chief minister, their single goal is to form a welfare oriented Congress government in Madhya Pradesh. State Congress stalwarts like Digvijay Singh, Kamal Nath, Suresh Pachouri, Satyavrat Chaturvedi, Kantilal Bhuria and Ajay Singh have a common bond and their goal is to form a people oriented government in MP, Mr. Scindia reiterated. In the same context, Congress general secretary in-charge Madhya Pradesh affairs Mohan Prakash said there should be no confusion and acknowledged that it has been reiterated on several occasions that once the Congress wins the Assembly election, the party MLAs would be consulted and party president Sonia Gandhi will take the final call when it comes to appointing the chief minister.
Mr Scindia said that the Congress campaign committee would sit late on Wednesday night to draw the campaign strategy for the coming polls. Regarding the ruling BJP, he said that it would be cornered on issues like law and order, corruption, and flaws in the management of public distribution system.
