In a bid to clear godowns, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is likely to consider in its meeting on Thursday a proposal to allocate an additional five million tonnes of foodgrains to families below the poverty line (BPL).
The proposal, if approved, will push subsidy bill by another `9,471 crores.
Sources said, the proposal moved by the ministry of food and consumer affairs is on the agenda of the Thursday meeting of the CCEA, which seeks additional allocation of five million tonnes of foodgrains to BPL category for the 2013-14 financial year.
The ministry of food and consumer affairs has been pushing the proposal for about two months but no decision could be taken so far.
The proposal seeks to adjust the additional allocation of foodgrains to states — Delhi, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Haryana — who have rolled out the National Food Security scheme after an ordinance was approved by the government.

Centre, states to hold talks on personnel

Concerned over the issue of sudden and arbitrary transfers of officials, the Centre will soon discuss the matter with the states besides other administrative and personnel matters during a meeting later this month.
In addition, other issues like pending complaints against IAS officers, cases for grant of prosecution sanction and overstay of deputation period by the civil servants will also be discussed during the meeting scheduled for September 27 between the officials of the ministry of personnel and principal secretaries of personnel department of the states.
