West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday once again urged the industrialists to invest in micro, small and medium enterprises in the state. She coined a new slogan to launch her industrial drive: “shilpo korun Bangla gorun” (Set up industry, build Bengal).
Inaugurating the six-day Bengal Business Conclave of MSMEs titled SYNERGY MSME 2013 at Milan Mela, Ms Banerjee said that land would not be a problem for those who wanted to invest in small and medium industries. “Land will not be a problem for those who wish to invest in micro, small and medium enterprises. We have a land bank and a land map. Please invest here,” she said.
She said her government has ready land in Bolpur (180 acres ), Belur (75 acres ) and Banarhat of Jalpaiguri ( 180 acres ). The chief minister appealed for investment in these places. She claimed that one crore employments would be generated in the MSMEs and another one crore in textile sector.
Taking a dig at the Left Front government, she said that it could not solve the problem of 1,000 acres of the Tata’s Nano project in Singur. “But only in two years, our government has already given clearance for `11,000 acre of land for industry. The investors have nothing to worry: they can invest in Bengal,” she said, adding that unlike her Marxist predecessors she had zero tolerance for bandhs and blockades. “During our rule, there has been no loss of man-days in the state,” she claimed. She also blamed the Left Front government for having created a financial mess in the state and claimed that efforts initiated by her government were yielding results for the promotion of industry.
The state’s popular handloom brands Majusha, Tantushree and Tantuja would soon have a new umbrella brand name “Biswa Bangla”, the logo of which, designed by the chief minister, was unveiled at Synergy MSME 2013.
