Vijayawada: A woman of Payakapuram who could not bear with the financial crisis had killed herself by setting ablaze, in Vijayawada on Tuesday. According to police, Ch.Vijaya Lakshmi and her husband Ramesh were living in a rented house.
The couple failed to manage the financial needs of the house and Lakshmi’s husband had scolded her when she asked money to pay the house rent. Depressed Laksmi set herself ablaze in the early hours on Tuesday and died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. Payakapuram police registered a case and is investigating.

Girl with cigarette burns hospitalised
Mysore: A three-year-old girl, who was found at a bus stop in Bengaluru, has been admitted to the district hospital in Mandya to undergo treatment for cigarette burn injuries all over her body.
The doctors, however, did not find any evidence of sexual abuse. The girl was reportedly found by a man in Begaluru, who later handed it over to his issueless relative in Mandya on Monday. According to the medical examination, the burn injuries are about a week old as they are in healing stage.
Mandya District Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Shivakumar K. M. said the child was malnourished and had infection on her foot. He said since it was a medico legal case it has been brought to the notice of the Police and Department of Women and Child Development.
Mandya MP Ramya, who visited the girl at the hospital, said she will be handed over to the custody of Child Welfare Committee of Mandya. Mandya SP Bhushan G. Bhorase said a case has been registered under Section 326 of IPC by Mandya East Rural Police. No arrests have been made so far, he added.

Bengaluru: For Indira (35) a tiff with her friend Lakshmi (29) over the money she had lent to the latter proved fatal. The incident was reported on Monday night at Chamundeshwari Layout in Vidyaranyapura police station limits.
Both Indira and Lakshmi were residing in Chamundeshwari Layout and working as domestic helps. The police have arrested Lakshmi over the incident. Police said that few months ago Lakshmi was in dire need of money and approached Indira for help.
Indira pledged her gold ornaments to raise the amount. However, Lakshmi did not return the money as promised, and a worried Indira began pestering her.
On Monday morning, Indira’s husband Kumar urged her to get the money back. Indira went to Lakshmi’s house, but failed to return till night. “Kumar went to Lakshmi’s house looking for his wife. Lakshmi claimed that Indira had not come there at all. However, Kumar grew suspicious and went inside the house to find his wife lying in a pool of blood under a cot,” the police added.
Shocked by the incident, he raised an alarm and the locals called the police. The police rushed to the scene and immediately arrested Lakshmi.
“Lakshmi has confessed to have murdered Indira by hitting her with a rod as the latter was pestering her to return the money,” DCP (North) Sandeep Patil said. Vidyaranyapura police have registered a case.

Bangalore: Two people, including a B.Tech fifth semester student, committed suicide in separate incidents in the city on Monday. The B.Tech student, Kajal Jena (20), who was pursuing her degree at Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Technology at Krishnadevaraya Nagar near Hunasamaranahalli on Bengaluru International Airport Road, was depressed after failing in the fourth semester exam. She hanged herself at her house in Dwarakanagar in Bagalur police limits on Monday afternoon.
Her father, Amarvilas Jena, who was earlier with the Indian Navy, is working at the aviation safety branch of the BIA. The family that hailed from Odisha is settled in the city for the last several years.
Kajal had a test on Monday, but she did not go to the college and had locked herself in her room. In the afternoon, Kajal’s mother knocked on the door, but she did not open. When her mother looked through the window, she found Kajal hanging from the ceiling fan.
Kajal has stated in her suicide note that she was committing suicide as she was unable to study and manage the stress, the police said. “She held no one responsible for her death. Preliminary investigations revealed that she had also failed in some papers of the fourth semester and was very upset over it. These factors might have led her to commit suicide. The investigations are, however, on to know the exact reason,” the police said.
In another incident in Yalahanka police limits, a 35-year-old man hanged himself at his house at Shivanahalli off Jakkur Road on Monday night. He reportedly committed suicide after his wife asked him to quit alcohol.
The deceased, K Vijay Kumar, was a van driver and married to Vasanthi. The couple has two sons, Dileep, 12, and Bharat, 10. The police said that Vijay was addicted to alcohol and came home drunk every day over the last three years.

Nellore: ACB sleuths nabbed a superintendent working in a District Medical and Health Office red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000 from a medical officer on Tuesday.
ACB inspector Ch. Chandramoul said the accused, Shaik Meera Vali, had demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe to give orders retaining complainant Ch. Niranjan as medical officer at the Primary Health Centre in Jagadevipeta.
Meera Vali had gained notoriety for demanding hefty bribes.

Bengaluru: It was sheer desperation that caused this B Tech graduate - twenty-three-year-old Dasari Venkata Chaitanya Kumar — who also holds a diploma in the German language, to forge important documents to support his student visa application to Germany.
Kumar, a native of Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, was reportedly in despair after his two earlier attempts to obtain a visa to Germany to pursue his higher studies failed.
Kumar’s third attempt, however, proved even more unlucky, culminating with his arrest. He wanted to go to Germany by hook or crook; so he submitted manufactured documents to the Consulate General of The Federal Republic of Germany on Residency Road in the city in order to obtain a student visa.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan, when, based on his application, Kumar was called for an interview on Friday. During the interview, however, Kumar got carried away and apparently confessed that the documents submitted were phoney.
He reportedly told his interviewer that since his visa had been cancelled twice before; he did not want a repeat of the incident and hence decided to confess, thinking his visa would still be granted based on his good performance during the B.Tech exams.
From the beginning, Kumar’s plan had been to pursue a Master’s in Germany. This zeal also led him to complete a diploma in the German language. After his graduation from an engineering college in Hyderabad, he applied for a visa at the German Consulate office in Chennai twice and received a reject both times.
This time, he decided to try his luck at the German Consulate office on Residency Road in Bengaluru, revealed one of the officers who arrested the accused. Kumar resorted to submitting counterfeit documents about his workplace and residential address, but his attempt proved unsuccessful as the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the DCP (Central), Ravikanthe Gowda, and the graduate was arrested.
A month ago, Kumar visited his sister and brother-in-law’s house at Bellandur to live with them during his visa application process. Police said his brother-in-law was employed at a software firm on Old Airport Road and used to take the accused to his office regularly.
During one such visit, the accused managed to pilfer a letterhead bearing the name of the software company and created a fake document stating that he worked in the said firm from October last year till the mid-August 2013.
Using a similar manner of deception, Kumar even managed to get the ‘work experience letter’ stamped with a seal of approval when the concerned person was away from their desk, the officer said.
As part of his elaborate plan, he then took the rent agreement pertaining to his sister’s residence and created a fake stating that he had been staying at the said address for some time. Armed with these bogus papers, Kumar had applied for a student visa at the German Consulate office in Bengaluru.
“Following his confession that the documents pertaining to his work experience and residential address were false, the German Consulate’s office informed us. We rushed to the spot and arrested Kumar from the same office,” the officer added.

Raichur: A speeding truck fatally knocked down three persons in the wee hours of Tuesday on a bridge at Hirehalla in Manvi police station limits.
They were part of a group that had assembled there to carry out the immersion of Ganesha idols. Two died on the spot, while the third breathed his last on way to hospital. One person was injured.
The deceased have been identified as Yallappa (22), Huligeppa (21) and Ramesh(22), all residents of Haravi village.
The injured, Vishwaradyaswamy is undergoing treatment at a hospital. While the devotees were immersing idol at 1 am on Tuesday, a speeding truck, bound for Tumkur, approached the bridge.
On seeing the people assembled, the truck driver took a turn towards the right to avoid hitting them.
But he lost control and the lorry plunged into the stream. The truck driver, Vijaykumar, got trapped in the vehicle and the police had tough time trying to save his life. A complaint has been registered at Manvi police station.

Chennai: Four persons, including a mother-daughter duo, committed suicide in two separate incidents of double suicide reported in the city since Monday night.
A mother and her 10-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging from the same saree on Tuesday afternoon at their residence in G.S.M Garden, Jafferkhanpet. The police identified the victims as Jayanthi, 38, and Pooja, a class 5 student.
Primary investigations revealed that the woman was separated from her first husband John Gerald and has been living with Shaukath Ali of Jafferkhanpet along with her son from the first marriage, Praveen, a mechanic, and daughter, Pooja.
Police sources said the family was in a deep financial crisis and found it difficult to even pay the rent for their house. On Tuesday, after Shaukath Ali and Praveen left home, the woman and her daughter committed suicide by hanging from the same saree.
The Kumaran nagar police recovered the bodies and sent it to the government Royapettah hospital for post-mortem.
In another incident, a couple married only for over a year committed suicide by hanging at their residence near Red Hills on Monday night. Identified as Thangaraj, 24, a truck driver, and Getha, 21, the couple had a love marriage and had a one-year-old child, the police said.
Investigations revealed that the woman was suffering from health problems. The husband had borrowed money for his wife’s treatment, but after a point, they couldn’t afford to take loans, police sources said.
On Monday evening, the woman had left her child with her grandmother, Annalakshmi. But when Annalakshmi went to the couple’s house on Tuesday, the door was locked from inside. With the help of neighbours, the door was broke open and the couple was found hanging.

Vijayawada: The Nandigama police arrested two persons on the charges of exploiting money by posing themselves as police personnel. According to Nandigama circle inspector Bhaskara Rao, the accused Rayidi Venkatesh and Reddy Ramakrishna worked as truck drivers in the past.
The police said, Reddy Ramakrishna posing himself as a police man threatened a youth who was sitting with a girl and collected Rs 1,000. Later, the victim filed a complaint in Nandigama police station.
The police traced the two accused based on their mobile calls.
