BJP president Rajnath Singh here on Wednesday said that there is no justification in allowing the Samajwadi Party government to remain in office.
Referring the sting operation that exposed the UP minister Azam Khan — dictating the police to go slow, Mr Singh said: “The government of India should intervene and must take strict action against the Uttar Pradesh government which was involved in Muzaffarnagar riot.”
Mr Singh told reporters: “If the Congress-led UPA government fails to take action even after such expose, it would be construed that there is a nexus between the Congress and Samajwadi Party. They are spreading communal feelings in the society in order to divide them.”
Alleging that they are following British policy of “divide and rule”, the BJP president said that there could not be a matter more worrying than the state government being involved in endorsing communal riots.
He pointed out: “A sting operation by a news channel shows that the Uttar Pradesh government was entirely responsible for the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, which claimed the lives of several people. I strongly believe that there cannot be a more grave wrongdoing by any state government.”
Mr Singh further said: “Whether it is the Congress or the Samajwadi Party — they are only interested in staying in power. That is why I appeal to the Congress-led UPA government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take note of the facts that have come to light in the sting operation and take strict action against the SP-led Uttar Pradesh government.”
Mr Singh who attended a conference of BJP leaders of Northeastern states here on Wednesday said: “We expect that Congress led UPA government will act and take stern action. There is no point in allowing this government to continue.”
The BJP president who is going to stay in Guwahati for day will be meeting the leaders of Assam BJP on Thursday.
Earlier, soon after his arrival, Mr Singh was accorded a grand reception by Assam BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bodoloi International Airport Guwahati.
