To ensure that students from outside the University of Mumbai are able to take up post-graduate courses in the University, the academic council approved a bridge course that will allow them to pursue their studies in the University smoothly. According to an academic council member, the decision has been taken for the masters in science (M.Sc) course, which has a high demand among both local and outside students.
Speaking about the need for introducing a short term course that will help students integrate with the course being offered, another member said that while the University offers updated courses in many science subjects, other universities pursue older syllabi due to which students at times lag behind others who have studied at the University itself.
“Currently, we have approved four courses most sought after by students. More will be added after seeing the success of the interim course,” said the member.
The course is expected to be implemented from next year after getting approval of the senate that is expected to meet next month.

Rains Lash Nashik Again
Mumbai: Incessant rains continued to lash Nashik and other parts of the district for the second consecutive day on Monday, disrupting
normal life. Water levels at the district’s 23 small and medium dams increased after the rains, while eight dams including the Darna Dam were filled up 100 per cent on Monday. Gangapur Dam, which is main source of water for Nashik city is also filled upto 96 per cent, while water storage in 23 dams is estimated at 46,835 mcft (71 per cent), official sources said. However
, the Girna Dam, with a capacity to store 18,500 mcft of water is only 29 per cent full and more rains are required in its catchment areas, sources said.
