A 40-year-old man stabbed his wife to death at their residence in Thiruvottiyur on Monday night. The victim was identified as Noor Jehan, 31, a native of Kerala, who resided with her husband Muhammad Rafiq, of Chinna Mettupalayam, in Thiruvottiyur.
According to sources, Muhammad was a divorcee and has two children from the first marriage. He also allegedly indulged in black magic, the sources added.Police sources said the couple used to have frequent arguments over Muhammad indulging in black magic and similar activities.
On Monday, the couple had a vicious argument and relatives had to intervene to pacify them, police investigations revealed. Later that night, the couple again quarrelled and in a fit of rage, the man took a knife and stabbed his wife, the police said.
Noor Jehan, who was lying in a pool of blood, was immediately rushed to government Stanley hospital after a local hospital couldn’t treat her for the injuries, the police explained, adding that she died on way to the hospital.
Thiruvottiyur police arrested Muhammad and are investigating.

4-year-old Belgaum girl raped by relative
Belgaum: A four-year old girl from Baad village in Hukkeri was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old man late on Monday night.
The accused, Shivanand Mali, is girl’s relative. On Monday night, Mali visited the girl’s house and took her out on the pretext of buying her a chocolate and raped her.
Mali dumped the girl at a secluded place and went back to his village. When the girl’s family asked him about the girl, he initially didn’t reveal anything but later disclosed the location.
The girl was later traced on the outskirts of the village where she was lying unconscious. She was rushed to a private hospital in Belgaum from Baad and her condition is stated to be critical.
A case has been registered with Sankeshwar police.

Chennai: Popular Tamil cinema director Vikraman’s car driver committed suicide by hanging himself at the director’s office in K.K. nagar on Mon­day. Police sources surmise the man’s unhappy love life to be the reason behind this fatal step.
The victim, identified as Murugan, 25, is a native of Tirunelveli district and works as a driver, the police said. He stays along with another employee, Shankar, at the director’s office on R.K. Shanmugam road, in K.K. nagar. On Monday, Shankar had gone out after work and when he returned home, the house was locked from inside.
After efforts to call his friend turned futile, he approached the police, who broke open the door to find the driver hanging. The police retrieved the body and sent it to Royapettah hospital.

Depressed fashion consultant ends life
Bengaluru: A 29-year-old fashion consultant committed suicide on Monday evening by hanging at his house in Nanja Reddy Colony near Babu Saab Colony in Jeevan Bima Nagar. He reportedly lost his job and took the extreme step as he was not able to get another.
The deceased has been identified as Hong Reipam, a native of Manipur. He was working as a fashion consultant at a lifestyle shop near his house.
Police said he had come to the city a few yeas ago and was staying in a rented house along with his younger sister.
He had not gone for work for the last three days. On Monday evening, when his sister returned home after work, she found him hanging from a ceiling fan.
“Though the reason for the suicide is not clear, it is said that he had lost his job a few days ago. He was depressed as he could not find any other job. Besides, he was also addicted to alcohol. This might have led him to take the extreme step. His family members arrived on Tuesday and we would question them to know the reason for the suicide,” the police added.
Jeevan Bima Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.

Krishnagiri: Traders downed shutters fearing trouble following the brutal attack on the councillor of the panchayat union of Kelama­ngalam, 15 km from Hosur of Krishnagiri, in front of the police station.
On Tuesday morning, R. Manjunatha, 35, vice-president of the Kelman­galam town panchayat union, was travelling on a two-wheeler with his friend. The vehicle, after crossing the bus stand here, collided with another bike driven by S. Mohammed Ali, 17.
It is alleged that Mohammed abused Manjunatha, leading to heated arguments bet­ween them. Relatives of Mo­hammed, are said to have supported the boy, with the alleged intention of creating trouble.
Manjunatha, realising the situation was getting out of hand, tried to move away from the pla­ce, but was prevented by the relatives of Moha­mmed who demanded an apology from him.
He refused to and, ins­tead, went into the Kela­mangalam police station wi­th D. Giri Babu, 27, councillor for the first ward in Kelamangalam panchayat union, to lodge a complaint against Mo­ha­mmed and others.
The mob that followed Manjunatha and Giri Babu intercepted them in front of the police station and attacked them with lethal weapons, including a knife used in meat shops.
Though Manjunatha escaped unhurt, Giri Babu received grievous injuries on his head and chest. He was rushed to the Kelamangalam gover­n­ment hospital and later referred to another hospital, when his condition worsened.
Hearing the news, traders downed their shutters fearing more trouble between the two comm­unities. The Krish­a­­ngiri police have made ela­b­orate security arran­gements to prevent any untoward incidents here.

Tiruvarur: A village administrative officer (VAO) was trapped and arrested by the sleuths of directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) near here on Tuesday when the official took a bribe of Rs 4,000 from an applicant to issue him a legal heir certificate and for effecting patta name transfer.
Pandian (37), son of Karuppiah of Therku Thalampatti, near Kottur, had applied for legal heir certificate and patta name transfer. Narsanthupatti VAO Rajendran (55) demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 to issue the certificate and effect the patta name transfer.
Panidan, averse to giving bribe, reported the matter to DSP Rathinavel, in-charge of DVAC, Tiruvarur. As instructed by the DVAC sleuths, Pandian went to the VAO’s office at Kottur and handed over the bribe of Rs 4,000. The DVAC sleuths caught him red-handed with the bribe and recovered the money. Rajendran is native of Vazhakurichi village, in Pudukottai district.
