The Delhi Congress has pulled up its socks for the upcoming Assembly elections. In a bid to rejuvenate the grassroots workers in the, party’s state unit chief J.P. Agarwal nominated office secretary Parmod Kumar as party’s alderman from east Delhi.
Addressing the workers here on Wednesday, Mr Aggarwal said, “I have taken some decisions which were hard to take and were criticised within the party. However, later the same decisions were appreciated. I have even strongly opposed some decisions which were taken without thinking about the grassroots workers who give entire life to the party. Rather than calling the dignitaries to my residence, I uses to visit the block president or district president. The district level meetings will be held from October 1.”
“Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that the party’s block or district presidents will have the same stature as elected representatives (MPs or MLAs). Earlier the elected representatives used to call the block or district presidents to their houses for meetings, but now the MLAs and MPs have to attend the party meeting organised by the block or district presidents and have to sit next to them,” Mr Agarwal said.
Explaining Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s criteria for a transparent and honest way for ticket distribution, Mr Aggarwal said, “No parachute candidates will be entertained. The party will consider only those who are working in the area. No one will be selected on anyone’s reference or approach. There will be many levels of scrutiny by senior leaders and a list will be prepared. The forms for nominations are available. The candidate should be a members of Indian National Congress and a hard copy of a bio data of the applicant is mandatory.”
