New Delhi, Aug. 7: The CPWD has set up an internal committee, headed by the additional director general of CWG, to look into the arrangements and construction-related problems in the 10 stadia constructed, renovated or remodelled by the agency for the Commonwealth Games-2010. The move comes in the wake of reports of leakages at two stadia. The eight-member committee will constitute a task force that would not only identify the problem areas but also ensure that rectification is carried out.
Director general CPWD, B.K. Chugh, said that no major problems have been encountered in the stadia where the agency was involved. “The problem of leakages, as reported by the media at the weight-lifting auditorium in the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium complex and the cycling velodrome, were due to minor glitches which have been sorted out,” said Mr Chugh.
“Out of the 10 stadia we have taken up, problem has been reported only in two,” said Mr Chugh, adding that barring the main stadium, all the projects have been completed more or less within the time allotted.
“The work as per our mandate has been completed at all the 10 stadia. The works of agencies like TCIL, MTNL and Prasar Bharti remain. We will co-operate with them at the site, but that in no way means that our work is incomplete,” said Chugh.
