Following a plea by the Union sports ministry, the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) on Monday terminated the services of its Joint Director General, Mr T.S. Darbari, over charges of corruption.
Mr Darbari has been asked to hand over charge to Additional Director General, Mr V.K. Saxena.
The Sports ministry said it was not pleased with just Mr Darbari's suspension and wrote several letters to the Organising Committee asking for his ouster.
The Organising Committee finally terminated Darbari's services on Monday, even as he appeared before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning over the financial irregularities case pertaining to the 2010 Games.
Darbari has claimed that he was not involved in the Queen's Baton Relay financial irregularities case and was a victim of the media campaign.
Darbari, a close side of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Suresh Kalmadi, was earlier suspended after censure on Thursday.
The names of Mr Darbari and CGOC Deputy Director General, Mr Sanjay Mohindroo, figured in the investigations into alleged irregularities into services provided during the Queen's Baton Relay in London.
He was suspended along with Mohindroo after irregularities were revealed in payouts to a UK-based firm, which provided services such as car rentals during the Queen's Baton Relay launch in London.
