New Delhi, Aug. 16: The CWC, the highest decision-making body of the party, on Monday expressed concern over the current situation in the Kashmir Valley where “some elements are misguiding youths”.
The meeting, which was called to finalise a schedule for the Congress president’s election, discussed the situation in the Valley.
The Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, was specially called to brief the CWC about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir where the party is sharing power with the National Conference in the Omar Abdullah government.
Besides Mr Chidambaram, the Union ministers, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ms Ambika Soni and Mr R.K. Dhawan were said to have spoken on it.
Mr Azad, a former CM of the state, drew attention to how young generation is backing a demand of azadi. Ms Soni, who was earlier AICC in-charge of the state, also took part in the deliberation.
The Congress chief, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, is all set to be re-elected as party president on September 17. The schedule for the party presidential election was finalised at the CWC meeting here on Monday. The date for notification of the polls is August 27, last date for filing nominations is September 2, scrutiny will be held on September 3, last date of withdrawal is September 10, and date of polls, if necessary, is September 17.
