The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to distance itself from the Bajrang Dal kind of activism obviously in the wake of largescale public criticism of the violence perpetuated by the Bajrang Dal activists on young romantic couples at a religious-cum-popular scenic spot in the state capital the other day.
The Bajrang Dal issue was thrashed out at a regular coordination meeting of the ruling BJP and Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh in the state capital on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended among others by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP president Prabhat Jha.
One point underlined at this meeting was that the “Bajrangis” should be reined in. The embarrassment caused by the Bajrang Dal activists has only added to the woes of the state BJP leaders, who are already confronted with the problem of their government’s sagging image on several fronts, particularly on issues like law and order, corruption in high places, weak governance, and lack of accountability in the bureaucracy.
In this meeting the RSS office-bearers laid stress on enforcing a complete ban on cow slaughter in Madhya Pradesh.
In an unrelated development, also to build the image of the BJP-led state government and the ruling party, state urban administration minister and former chief minister Babulal Gaur has announced a novel scheme to provide low-cost food to poor persons. The minister has issued instructions to provide food to poor persons at the rate of Rs 5 per person through local bodies.
