Aug. 19: Shuttler Hasina Sunilkumar Prannoy became the second Indian to win a silver at the Youth Olympics while Yuki Bhambri reached the boys singles tennis final here Thursday.
Prannoy’s dream run was halted by Pisit Poodchalat of Thailand who beat him 21-15, 21-16 in the badminton final of the boys singles at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Woman wrestler Pooja Dhanda had Monday won the first silver medal for India.
Yuki is just a step away from Youth Olympics glory as he beat Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in a tightly contested semi-final. He plays Juan Sebastian Gomez of Columbia in the final.
The only good news in athletics came through Durgesh Kumar who topped Heat 2 of the boys 400m qualifications. It was an ordinary day for India in swimming. Aaron Agnel D’Souza showed promise in the youth men’s 100m Heat 5 by securing a fourth place in the morning. But he could not replicate the performance in the semifinals and finished fifth to bow out of the competition.
