The Rajya Sabha on Thursday witnessed repeated disruptions after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) members alleged a deal between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the civil nuclear liability bill to give a CBI clean chit to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case. The House witnessed three adjournments on the issue.
During the Zero Hour, LJP member Ram Vilas Paswan tried to raise the issue but was repeatedly disrupted by BJP members, prompting other LJP and RJD members coming out in defence of Mr Paswan. Despite repeated attempts by deputy chairman Mr K. Rahman Khan to bring the House in order, the din continued. The House was then adjourned till 2 pm. When the House met after lunch break, Mr Paswan and RJD leaders Ram Kripal Yadav and Rajneeti Prasad voiced shrill protests alleging a deal between the Congress and BJP.
Mr Paswan along with the RJD members sought to raise the matter but P.J. Kurien, who was in the chair, asked them to quote the rule under which they wanted to speak saying that the Zero Hour was over. Mr Paswan insisted that he was not allowed to raise the matter during Zero Hour.
Soon afterwards, the three MPs entered the well, sat on dharna raising slogans saying there was a deal between government and the BJP.
Minister for housing and urban poverty alleviation Kumari Selja and Congress member Jesudasu Seelam failed to calm the protests even as the BJP members entered into a verbal duel with the treasury benches.
