Designer Jattinn Kochhar wants answers for what he’s gone through with regard to Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) project for CWG. He claims he was asked to design a store in Games Village for Khadi Commission, then told that the organisers need to float second tender and this was after he had already invested Rs 15 lakhs and manforce.
Jattinn was called to the KVIC office on Friday and told that he doesn’t quality because of some technical requirements.
Says Jattinn, “I asked them if the other company qualified as it’s an event management company who are definitely not apparel designers, they are stall makers. I don’t understand after 19 years in the industry, KVIC tells me I don’t qualify, I am perplexed. I don’t know what to say.”
Designers Leena Singh of Aashima Leena, who were one of the bidders, said, “We are approached by KVIC and we even gave them a presentation. Our bid was very high and Jattinn was given the tender since his bid was low. Post this, we have nothing to do with the project.”
Meanwhile, Jattinn is in no mind to approach the law. “I am way too hassled to approach law. You know how it works in our country. These people are just not ready to discuss, the senior person who was to see me today, didn’t come as his father wasn’t well. The person Dr Naresh who met me kept saying, ‘I am not competent enough to answer this.’ They tell me they floated the tender for the second time because first time there were just two bidders. Ironically, this time there’s just me and that event management company. What are they trying to imply? Also, even if they give this to somebody at this juncture, how is anybody going to complete the project in five days? The date of submission is August 25. Even if I am asked to complete it now, I can’t. It’s humanly impossible. How can one design 20 piece collection and 500 pieces in five days?” he asks.
