Unable to anticipate the possible fallout of the Allahabad high court verdict on the Ram Janm abhoomi-Babri Masjid land title suit, a nervous Sangh Parivar is treading cautiously.
Senior leaders have been asked to remain posted in their respective areas of influence. Sangh’s top brass is personally monitoring the statements made by functionaries of affiliate organisations.
That the Sangh parivar is treading cautiously on the issue can be felt from the fact that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), aggressive among the Sangh affiliates, has stated that whatever the verdict be, it would continue the Rammandir movement “peacefully”.
Senior VHP leader Mr Ashok Singhal has also written a letter to media organisations, reiterating that the Rammandir could be built only through a legislation, passed by the Parliament.
He has mentioned in the letter that though VHP wants the temple to be constructed at the disputed site, it can be accomplished only through the Rammandir campaign and a legislation. The Sangh parivar has also suggested that after the court verdict, a national consensus should be created on the issue. The VHP has already launched the Hanuman shakti jagran campaign through which the Sangh wants to keep the Rammandir movement alive.
Senior RSS leaders and BJP top brass are having deliberations on the issue on a regular basis, sources disclosed. The BJP, was even asked by the RSS to postpone its national executive, so that its senior leaders are at their respective states when the verdict is announced.
The BJP meet was earlier scheduled on September 18.
Both the BJP chief Mr Nitin Gadkari and parliamentary party chairman, Mr L.K. Advani have asked party leaders to refrain from making any statement on the issue.
Infact, at the recently concluded state executive meeting of party’s Uttar Pradesh unit, the issue was not even mentioned once by senior party leaders including Dr M M Joshi, when the disputed site is in the state.
