About 30 passengers have suffered light injuries after a plane went off the runway while attempting a landing in heavy rain at Palermo airport in Sicily, the ANSA news agency reported.
The plane, an Airbus 300 coming from Rome and carrying 123 people, belongs to Italian low-cost airline Wind Jet. Most of those injured suffered light grazes and bruises. In a statement, Wind Jet said Friday’s accident was caused by a sudden change in the direction of the wind.
Palermo's Falcone and Borsellino airport will remain closed until Saturday evening and flights to and from Palermo will be diverted.
