An overhead luggage panel inside an Air India flight from Port Blair to Chennai collapsed during landing but airport officials maintained that no one was injured in the incident. According to sources, the passengers had seen the aircraft’s overhead luggage panel being repaired before take off from Port Blair.
“The flight from Port Blair landed at 10.50 am on Sunday and immediately after touching the runway point there was a massive shake inside the aircraft and the overhead luggage panel collapsed on the ninth row, where fortunately no passengers had been seated,” a senior airport official, quoting passengers, said.
The airline also confirmed that no passenger was injured in the incident.

Mom-son paraded on buffalo

A dalit woman and her son were made to sit on a buffalo with their faces blackened and were paraded in a village in Bulandhshahr district on Saturday evening after a local panchayat found the two guilty of abducting a girl.
Ten persons, including a woman and government guard, have been arrested in connection with this incident.
According to police reports, Chandrawati (45) and her 18-year-old son Devendra had reportedly given some sedatives to a young woman Chamma, 30, and had handed her over to another man in the same village, about a month ago.

Cop, guard try to molest woman, held
Hyderabad : A police constable and a homeguard attached to Medipally police station here were arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a nursing student, the police said on Sunday.
The 25-year-old woman’s father Jacob, a Pastor, lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday alleging that constable Vijay Kumar and homeguard Narsing Rao tried to misbehave and sexually assault his daughter when she was alone at their home.
The alleged incident occurred on September 18, when the woman, a resident of Tarnaka had gone to Changicharla village at Medipally, they said.
The woman later informed her father about the incident.
Following the complaint, Medipally police registered a case under relevant sections. —PTI

Man to serve animals as punishment
New Delhi : In an unusual order, a Delhi court has released a convict on probation asking him to serve injured and sick animals for a year as a punishment for kidnapping and tying nuptial knot with a minor girl after concealing his married status.
“I direct that convict Rajpal be released on probation of good conduct for a period of two years on furnishing a personal and surety bond of `10,000 each and with a further condition that he shall render service to the sick animals,” ASJ Kamini Lau said. —PTI
