Stylist Sylvie, who already has two teeth studded with emeralds and diamonds, is now planning the third one with a bigger stone. “I wanted to try something different, so I got jewels fixed by Dr Ahluwalia in Amar Colony, Delhi. As I don’t have an impressive smile, I thought the stones would make it more catchy and striking. I also thought it will attract men,” she grins.
Although, mostly popular in Europe and US, it’s slowly becoming huge in India too. Ruchika Rai, a journalism student, shares, “I got a pearl stud on my tooth last year, while I was in the US for a cousin’s wedding. Although it’s still not a rage in India, I’m sure with time it’ll become a fashion statement.”
Very true! As Gunjan Kapoor, a media professional is planning to get one for her birthday. “It would be a perfect gift. I’d love to have a sparkling Swarovski crystal on my tooth. It will match my Lady Gaga sense of style. It’s a unique idea and blends well with my crazy mood swings.”
The trend is more popular in big cities and people of all ages are endorsing it. And now it’s turning popular among the younger lot too, those who’re party lovers and willing to experiment,” shares Delhi-based dentist A.K. Kapoor.
He also talks about the concept and adds, “Although dental jewellery involves precious, semi-precious, metal crystals or pearls, diamonds are everyone’s favourites.We also have them in interesting shapes like stars and dolphins.”
