Tourists on their way to witness the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on Sunday were filled with anticipation.
“I have come all the way from the US just to see the spectacular performance of athletes and other sportspersons. Although, I live in America, my first love is India and that’s why I am here to witness the event. I come here to enjoy my time with the sports biggest personalities,” Mr Mahesh Kumar Srivastav, an NRI hotelier, said.
Mr Rob llew, an American, who is visiting India for the first time, said, “India is a beautiful country. The people here are really so cordial that I am feeling like coming to a place where they treat me like knowing me since years. It is an amazing experience which I will carry back with me to the US.” The story was also same for a general manager of a company in Russia, Mr Samresh Bahuguna, who came with his wife and two children, said, “Today I have come here for enjoying a full entertainment show. I have forgotten everything behind me. Now we are ready to showcase our culture in front of the international audiences, not for any negativism, but to see the positive vibes turn into fierce competition.”

‘Official didn’t get dengue in Village’

Oct. 3: The medical authorities continued to maintain that a member of the Indian delegation, who was diagnosed with dengue, had not contracted the disease while being in the Games Village.
On Saturday, a member of the Indian lawn bowl team was taken to G.B. Pant Hospital after he complained of symptoms of dengue. “His condition is stable. He will be discharged on Monday. He is fit enough to watch the opening ceremony on the television from his hospital bed,” a doctor attending on him said.
The doctor said that the patient may not have necessarily caught dengue in the Games Village, as he was in the capital for the past few days and had also come in contact with people having dengue.
Dengue has struck the capital this season in a big way claiming seven lives. Well over 3,500 cases have been reported. The Delhi government and the MCD have also been trading charges on the measures being taken to deal with the menace. However, the MCD authorities maintained that extra care was being taken to prevent breeding of the mosquitoes in the Games Village complex, which continues to be surrounded by swampy areas from three sides.
