The CMO of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital Dr Rakesh Sharma died on Tuesday with sources in the hospital claiming that he died of dengue. However, the medical superintendent of RML Hospital, T.S. Sidhu denied the same. According to other senior officials in the hospital, Dr Sharma died after a prolonged infection in the brain.
Talking to this newspaper, a senior hospital official said that Dr Sharma had some infection in brain. “The infection which the deceased suffered is often caused due to dengue but in Dr Sharma’s case, the results so far have shown that he did not die of dengue,” said a official.
Dr Sharma, who is survived by his wife and children, was declared dead around 3.30 pm in the RML Hospital. Officials also claim that over a dozen other RML doctors are suspected to be suffering from dengue infection.
Meanwhile, the dengue menace continued in Delhi with the number of patients affected by the vector-borne disease reaching 3,703 on Tuesday. The national capital has reported seven dengue deaths this season.
