US ambassador to India Timothy Roemer has said in a statement here that he was looking into the media reports about possible information related to David Coleman Headley that goes back before the Mumbai attacks and how such information may have been handled.
The envoy’s remarks came the day after ProPublica, a US-based non-profit newsroom engaged in investigative journalism in the public interest, reported that the US investigators had known of 26/11 plotter David Coleman Headley’s training trips to Pakistan before the Mumbai attacks. This information was not disclosed to the Indians.
A version of the report was also published by the online edition of The Washington Post newspaper. Mr Roemer said: “We take our counterterrorism cooperation with our Indian partners very seriously; our respective intelligence and law enforcement professionals work very closely together on terrorism issues of mutual concern. When we have determined exactly what transpired, we will be in a position to speak to the specific claims made in The Washington Post article and other media reports.
“I can say that it is our policy and practice to share terrorism-related information promptly with our foreign partners, when we deem that information potentially credible and relevant to their national security. We do exactly that with partners around the world every day, including India.”

Pakistan slams Army Chief Singh’s remark
Islamabad, Oct. 16: Pakistan on Sunday reacted angrily to the Indian Army chief’s remarks describing the country as a major irritant for India’s security and about the possibility of a war in a nuclear scenario, saying they were “jingoistic” and “unwise”.
Rejecting the allegations made by Indian Army chief Gen. V.K. Singh, foreign office spokesman Abdul Basit said in a statement: “The government of Pakistan takes a serious exception to the reported statement of the Indian Army chief about his threat perception from Pakistan, war under a nuclear scenario and uncalled for and gratuitous comments on the internal affairs of Pakistan.”
