Meet 30-year-old Pema Tshering, who inspite of his more than 70 per cent disability, works day in and day out completely engrossed in wood carving and other traditional handiwork, which is one of the greatest achievements not only for himself but also for his country Bhutan.
King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, who inaugurated the Festival of the Arts based on the theme “The Forest” here at the India International Centre (IIC) on Thursday, interacted with Tshering and gifted him a watch.
Tshering, talking to this newspaper through an instructor, said that inspite of his disability, he loves to work continuously.
Tshering was one of the finest craftsman for the country, an official of the King’s convoy said.
“I do my work for the love of art and craft. My disability did not become an obstacle in my love for wood carving,” said Tshering.
