New Delhi, Oct. 25: With just a few days to go before the US President, Mr Barack Obama lands in India, the defence minister, Mr A.K. Antony, on Monday said there is a “possibility” of a terror threat “whenever a high-level visit takes place”.
“Whenever a high-level visit takes place, there is a possibility of threat. We are taking all measures (for security), he said.”
Mr Antony also highlighted how the Government had successfully ensured the smooth conduct of the recent Commonwealth Games at Delhi despite reports of a threat.
Earlier in the day while addressing the Army Commanders’ Conference in the Capital, the defence minister warned that India would need to enhance its defence preparations in the light of the rapid Chinese military modernisation.
As Ministry of Defence (MoD) sources put it, China is aggressively building up and modernising its military capability. On our part, we need to enhance our defence preparedness adequately and remain vigilant and alert at all times.”
Crucial bilateral issues such as easing of export controls and outsourcing curbs by the US as well as regional security situation vis-a-vis Pakistan will be high on the agenda when Mr Obama arrives here early next month, US officials said here on Monday and made it clear that there will no American intervention Kashmir issue.
