Looks like it’s beauty over brains that is preferred when it comes to dating in Delhi University. A recent survey conducted across 10 colleges in DU revealed that students here prefer a glamorous looking partner to date, but a casual person to make friends. The research was commissioned by Bausch & Lomb under a ‘Preferred Look” survey.
In fact many students agree and feel that it’s a common trend to choose a decked-up guy or girl over a casually dressed one. Kartik Bajaj from Sri Venkateswara College says, “I think it’s true that students prefer to date a glamorous person because it is all about creating a ‘cool’ image. If you go out on a date with a hot looking girl you are considered influential and happening. But when it comes to choosing friends, ordinary looking people are much better to stick with as they are not too fussy.”
Pankaj Sharma, a student of Hansraj College, thinks that a glam person may get attention easily, but there has to be some substance to take the relationship forward. He opines, “Interestingly, you will always find a beautiful person more appealing, but if that person is too obsessed or snooty then it’s a turn off. However, dating a casual looking person is easier because they don’t throw tantrums and you won’t be conscious about yourself when they are around.”
However, Ankita Seth, a student of Gargi College, begs to differ and feels casual looking people are preferred any day in college because they are easy going. “Many get intimidated by hip looking people, they try too hard to impress them. But normal blokes are friendlier and they don’t care much about issues like looks or brands,” she adds.
