Nov. 13: In probably America’s most forthright comments yet on Pakistan, US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has admitted what India has long bemoaned: That Pakistan has used terrorism as an instrument of state policy against India and Afghanistan, and that she could not be sure even now that that policy has changed.
In an interview to ABC News, Ms Clinton said Pakistan had used terror outfits as a hedge to prevent India and Afghanistan from undermining its interests.
She also acknowledged that the Al Qaeda was a Frankenstein monster of America’s own making. “Part of what we are fighting against right now, the US created. We created the Mujahideen force against the Soviet Union. We trained them, we equipped them, we funded them, including somebody named Osama bin Laden”, Ms Clinton said, “And it didn’t work out so well for us.”
